Let's just say I've messed up a few indicators myself.

Hi Chris I really appreciate this video with the close-ups and slow motions of the turning of this beautiful piece of steel with all these big blue shavings flying, thank you and have a nice weekend. I have never checked a room with such a digital caliper.

Chyba nie ma takiego żeby nie był poparzony przy tokarce (ryzyko zawodowe). Z tym ustawianiem to się staram żeby dobrze wyszło na filmie 😉

Thanks for video and S, F values, I really want to learn how you arrange finish passes, how measure, 1 or 2 or 3 passes for final dimension, Can you catch under 0,01mm dimensions on same machine? Do you have any video to refeer in your channel this final passes? Thanks again, best regards.
@ChrisMaj Жыл бұрын
Most of the time, it's 2 finish cuts.

I'm really wondering about the application of those rollers if those bolts need to be lock wired.

I'm guessing the initial roughing cuts took about 40HP. How close was I? Love the smell of paint scorching off the chip pan. The tenth DTI's mounted on long mag base arms (Noga?) Much elasticity there where a few milligrams is enough to deflect the arm some very small amount which may be within the hystersis band of the indicator. Even the best DTI's have some stiction in their movements and require a tiny bit of agitation to reliably register small deviations when mounted on slender elastic rods. Your machine is very large and massive. I bet you don't feel any vibration in its structure except for heavy interrupted cuts. Old Bob Chouinard taught me to lightly tap the rod with a wood pencil, tap the machine near the mag base with a small (4 oz) soft hammer, start a traverse motor or coolant pump, any slight shock or vibration to agitate the DTI's movement to gain a fully settled indicator reading. I purchased lathe tools, milling cutters, inserts, indicators, etc from Shars over the years. My experience was Shars products generally perform up to spec. Any small deficiencies weren't critical to performance and cost savings easily overrode trivial dissatifactions. Naturally, the old mantra applies: comparison shop wisely. (13:50) Why do I shudder when I hear a pneumatic sander in hearing range of ball bearings assembled in their housings open to falling debris?
@ChrisMaj Жыл бұрын
Yeah, close 35hp.
@Chiefs1582 Жыл бұрын
I did that for a while buying the cheap stuff spi etc. In the long run getting Starrett or Mittos would of been more wise so i didn't have to buy the same thing twice.

I like that Sharp indicator just for the large face. I don't use small test indicators that much..
@jimsvideos7201 Жыл бұрын
As much as I'm just a photographer who has tabletop machines, I do have a 5-place Mitutoyo mic but it lives in its case when I'm not actively using it. My 1" mechanical mic I don't mind leaving on the table, and my $30 caliper I will gladly use to (lightly) scribe layout lines.
@ChrisMaj Жыл бұрын
I'm that guy who has a little bit of both. That cheaper stuff is not as bad as it used to be 10,20 years ago, but I also have a lot of expensive stuff, but that's only for special occasions 😅

No, never did. I do a lot of different types of threads, metric and imperial, and as long as it's 60 degrees I can do all of them with just one insert.

i use the interapid test indicators, extremely nice quality. better then starrett & mitutoyo test indicators combined
@googlesux1062 Жыл бұрын
Same. With one of their test indicators can go from rough setup to dialed in a single pass on the small hole edm I sometimes run.
@ChrisMaj Жыл бұрын
With my type of work, I don't really use 0.0005"or 0.0001" test indicators.
@googlesux1062 Жыл бұрын
@@ChrisMaj I'm sure it's not at all necessary for your work, bit imagine having that resolution with 0.030" of travel for the 0.0001" indicator or 0.060 " for the half thou.
