Thanks for getting out in the cold to record this new passenger equipment. So wonderful to see a railroad where passenger service is BOOMING!

Nice video! I was surprised to see something out so soon after the delivery. I work for Reading & Northern and was the one riding on the back of car 1962 between Mt. Carmel and East Mahanoy Junction. Great shot of us going along the ridge paralleling 54 just south of Mt. Carmel, that's a shot I hope to get someday myself of something running there. And it was nice to see a lot of the North Shore delivery as that's the half of the day I wasn't there for.

jamie, where did these cars come from? they are beautiful old time cars that will fit in perfectly with R&N. i dunno how andy found them but it's not easy to find old time cars still in good condition. god bless him for finding them.

@@Engineer5344 they belonged to Jeff Pontius. He ran a holding company called Penn Valley Rail Road that did fall foliage and Christmas trips and others on the North Shore system.

I rode in one of those cars a couple of years back when they ran an excursion in conjunction with the RR Museum of PA. We boarded in Sunbury and ran to Shamokin (actually beyond Shamokin) and back with a lunch stop in Shamokin and a chance to see the huge model RR club layout there. By the end of the day I wished that I had paid the extra for a ticket in one of the two(?) air conditioned cars. We never exceeded 15 MPH and it was a hot and humid day. Still, a great rare mileage trip.

new only to R&N, all these cars came from the Penn Valley RR operations in central PA. that operated on the North Shore RR. although painted for PRR, none of these cars are of PRR origin.
@NCXDesigns10 күн бұрын
Well they honor the PRR region in those colors tho. And look good in it especially the Pennsylvania typeface. Was this around Lewisburg? My father tried to get us up there in the 90s to ride but by then I think the railroad shutdown excursions.

@@axle17921 Hmmm, from my understanding, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railroad departs from Jim Thorpe, whereas the Reading & Northern Railroad has its station in Port Clinton. It isn't out of the realm of possibility, though, for both railroads to share equipment.

@lancomedic the three clerestory roof cars are ex DL&W MU cars. Repainted for PRR which I find objectionable as an old Lackawanna fan. 😅

@@seven8n235 I mean the man who owned them started out on PRR as a conductor. He went on to Conrail and ran 1361 a couple times. After his stint runnin 1361 went to work for North Shore and retired in the 2000s as their VP of Operations.

Why did Andy/R&N buy them? Did North Shore stop running various excursions they did over their branches and is now freight only? Those coaches would have been nice with the PRR #1361 when restored on the Nittany and Bald Eagle. But that won't happen unless the #1361 comes to the R&N.
