Most Chicagoans will choose Lou Malnatis over Giordano's. You're also missing Geno's among others.

CES is not what it was before Jordan was born. Long long ago, in the ancient past, some high-end manufacturers would go to CES. This was before the era of CES being the place for computer executives to go and unveil products. Also, the adult video industry was a parallel adjunct to CES that drew many. In many ways it is a good thing that high-end/cult audio moved away from CES.

I think as an electrical engineer I'm going to call myself Audio Exposa. This industry is entirely BS. Today I'm going to expose how wires actually work from an electrical engineer's point of view and why I'd never buy anything but the cheapest cables on the market from places like The Home Depot for speaker cable and Parts Express or Amazon for interconnects. Are electrical engineers stupid or what? Don't they understand that different cables can sound different? Don't they see how much effort goes into making audiophile grade cable? Is the mainstream wire and cable industry indifferent to the needs of audiophiles? This is for tyros who include the most respected gurus in this sorry sorry industry. What makes me an authority on cables? Besides my theoretical knowledge which I received in engineering school during my nearly 50 year career I've spent more millions of dollars of other peoples' money on more hundreds of thousands of miles of more different kinds of cables than I care to think about. So here is the truth as I see it. First we start with the mathematical model of the electrical properties of wire. This model is around 150 years years old and is based on bedrock science. It's called "The Telegrapher's Equation." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telegrapher%27s_equations notice that the electrical properties are a four element filter circuit and is dependent on not only the value of the parameters but those values depend on the length of the wire as well as the way it is constructed. What does a filter circuit do? It alters the frequency response of the signal passing through it. The function of a wire is to make a connection between two points in a circuit with the least possible change within the requirements of the circuit. It is not intended to be a control element. As a control element is is the worst possible choice. It is not adjustable, for most people it will not be predictable, and it is expensive. Here is an example of how this equation is used. Note that a computer program does all of the calculations necessary that I and those of my era had to compute manually. Also note that the behavior of the wire and the over all circuit's frequency response depends on not just the wire but the source impedance and the load impedance. The method of using the equation is shown starting at 5:37. The parameters for the cartridge output and preamplifier input are shown previously. The term Gdx is omitted because this is the DC conductance between the two conductors which is the inverse of resistance. It is assumed to be zero because at DC the wires are for this example an open circuit. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWKvgmmoadNno80 This is one way to change the frequency response of the circuit. Some preamplifiers have adjustable shunt capacitance for different cartridges and different inputs for moving coil and moving magnet cartridges which have very different output impedances and voltages. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYaqiKF9rK5nldE Here's a much better way that I use. www.amazon.com/Technical-Pro-Professional-Individual-Indicators/dp/B093TDTHCZ/ref=sr_1_25_sspa?hvadid=409955958367&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9004030&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=9449930669672251266&hvtargid=kwd-2650759421&hydadcr=19100_11276166&keywords=graphic+eq&qid=1682797242&sr=8-25-spons&psc=1&smid=ADCZTTE1BO460&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFEOElENDA4MVRPUlkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTEwNDQ2NTIxS0swTEdTMTY5RVpSJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4MzA0NDlEOEtMUkpKV1VENlEmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl Adjustable, predictable, and inexpensive. no further expensive endless searching for the right wires. Buy one time and done. Not much profit. Small wonder the high end consumer audio industry will insist that this is the devil's work. BTW so called room correction in HT receivers is nothing more than automated eq using a white or pink noise generator, a microphone, a built in spectrum analyzer, and a feedback controlled equalizer to get flat frequency response. It's not my money so I don't care what people do with theirs. However this information comes from a reliable source that has a great deal of knowledge, me.
