Oh neat, and I guess that makes sense as this is a laptop chip where normal desktop usage (web browsing, excel) needs CPU power not GPU power so that gets priority, but you're gaming which needs the exact opposite. Iirc the Switch on battery power also prioritises the GPU. Is the GPU throttling at all at 15W or only at 5W?

Just an observation - it is interesting that the CPU frequency tanks when you set a static GPU frequency, yet the FPS is higher. Its interesting that the APU will naturally spend its budget with the CPU yet it doesn’t seem as important. I suppose this tanking of frequency could also be caused by the CPU frequency being across 6 cores too. I saw something on the discord about disabling cores in Windows but I’m not sure if that will help.

If Aya is going to send out my device by 2077, I sure will enjoy it. Seeing you tweaking these APUs all the time actually made me tinker a little with my desktop myself a bit and while _it is just_ a 2700X which too behaves different from Renoir, I get the feeling a little bit of lowering voltage and underclocking can make it a better experience.

@@mustakimkamaruzaman9715 hey, but i know that. i was just wondering how good can be 1165g7 after undervoltage, but tbh, win is still pretty damn silent, still more silent than any laptop i ever had, and i had quite many of them. now im waiting for new generation amd handheld cpu because last one was not really competition to intel. new amd apus are awsome so i wait for handheld edition. im also pretty excited about next intel handheld/ultrabook SoC`s from intel. last one at high tdp still are at same lvl or better than deck and they are more than 1 year on market.

It could be that the CPU/GPU share total TDP. Tweaking these umpc's is a bit of a balancing act. Without fine tuning like Phawx is doing here, one component can take power away from the other, lowering FPS. In this case, CPU is clocking up too quickly, taking power from GPU (which in the case of this game, is more crucial for FPS). You can also use Speedshift EPP to tame how quickly the CPU ramps up it's clockspeeds

The games he's testing, and most games in general, need GPU power over CPU. He's underclocking the CPU so that more power goes to the GPU

Isn't 200 MHz to 323 MHz an overclock? Since ya know the clock speed is higher. I see the core clock is lower from 1397 MHz to 399.3 MHz. So you are underclocking the CPU but overclocking the iGPU.

Give more power to GPU than the standart setting is give more power to CPU..Yes its possible because this is not gaming pc or gaming laptop because handheld device only have intergrated GPU not GPU like RTX or GTX in the gaming laptop ,so its possible doing that to get more FPS performance..This is handheld device its not more than that..Its still using battery to power the CPU & GPU so battery power is not suitable overcloacking because it will not enough watt to power the CPU & GPU like gaming laptop & gaming pc which plug it using electric 240v power..If handhels gaming device using more high power watts electric,yes we can overcloaking than undercloaking..So handheld gaming device of want to overcloaking its not suitable because we will short the battery life..More TDP setting more reduce the power of battery life..

Underclock mean give power to GPU more than standart setting CPU..Its for someone who want save more battery life with better FPS performance..So after doing it you cant setting it to 15w,20w or up because the setting is just for 5w..Only 5w remeber..If you want to play change high tdp more better not to do it..

@@MegaManNeo I have both of the other devices in hand. Onexplayer was so streamline it was like buying something off the shelf. Gpd win 3 delivered first and I don't feel it is very comfortable to hold with the ABXY position. Waiting for their grip so that my hands will be in a good position for comfort. Based on Aya's updates, when they switched to the new CEO, he has tried to improve the product to a point that it isn't shipping in its competitive window. The 4500U was the lowest performing chip to begin with, and the delay on shipment will now have it bumping up against the steam deck, which will offer mostly upgrades outside of the feel or form factor. My assumption is that with the competition entering the market as these chips people low cost and perform well enough, Aya neo wanted to give a premium product as their first one to try and make a name for themselves. I would have preferred a product in my hands than waiting until September or later to get minor improvements to the plastic mold and triggers. Having a 4800U or 5800U option would help it be closer to the 1165g7 devices at higher tdp, so based on the price to upgrade I may go for that. I am also curious if tuning it like The Phawx did here will yield better performance at lower tdp because of 8 CU at lower frequencies for better efficiency.

How is Aya and Gpd going to compete with Steam? They take a massive loss while being able to produce for a cheaper price due to selling more units. I feel these Chinese companies are going to have a rough time selling fkr their msrp now.

I have a very fast cpu in my laptop (45TDP in a 35W slot). I have it configured to run at 60% of max frequency and disabled turbo mode. That was the best decision ever. The same was needed for my gpd win2 though, before we got that better heatsink mod.

Phawx can you help at all? GPD Win 3 related but... My GPD Win 3 can't run anything decently playable, latest drivers, TDP set according to your video, RAM speed corrected in BIOS, anything else I can try? I've tried playing Battlefront 2, World War Z, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2 and even Skyrim has major issues all on Low settings barely getting 30fps and if they do it's random frame drops every 2 seconds. Anybody else can you suggest anything? At my end here because it cost so much but I don't understand why I can't play anything like all these videos on KZbin showing it playing. Many thanks,

Honestly for me this just make this console/gaming pc much less attractive. I know that this shows max potential of device but on the other hand showing that it's a device for person passionate of settings and bios, not ready for regular consumer. Although nice tech videos ;)

This is just for maximizing efficiency at low wattage. The default clock set the device ships with would be much better from a performance perspective, this is for people who are trying to min-max battery life.

This isn't normal performance. It's a 15W device and this is showing it running at 5W to save battery life.
