I always thought it was really weird that Darwin had to come up for air when he was in the pool even though he’s a fish and it’s established multiple times throughout the series he can breathe underwater. I only bring this up because even when I was a kid I thought it was weird

Maybe because a pool has chlorine? Like breathing pool water might be like someone trying to breathe polluted air, too much chemical to be safe

One of two reasons I can think of: 1. As Darwin was little, his body wasn't as developed and his lungs were in a way, clashing, with the rest of his organs. 2. The inside of the pool was contaminated or simply too disgusting for Darwin to be in it for too long.
