We all know what the C9 roster was like and how Zachmazer treated Naughty. Naughty himself said on stream with Alb that he had a lot of bad habits after teaming with Zachmazer for 2 years and it would take time to break, but he was excited with the changes of his new team going forward. Now Lou was not fully prepared to Micro Naughty throughout PL and so his patience rightfully so ran out. But instead of trying to adapt or make constructive criticisms to make things work, he began harping /hyper focusing on Naughtys mistakes and took his frustrations out on him. So here’s the thing that I’m sure Naughty eventually realized himself. Lou did EXACTLY what his previous IGL just did. In reality nothing changed for Naughty. He traded one Zachmazer for another and that’s why his confidence died out. This team needed to take some accountability and work on their own individual bad habits. They came so close to LAN in the hardest meta possible as a new team when they were probably only a few fixes away from being Top 5 in NA.
@BruceWayne-wh4of Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say "he traded one Zachmazer in for another", and more so, he "made Lou become another Zachmazer". Cause Naughty proved multiple times throughout the split that he needed to be micro-ed, and refused to improve his overall awareness and macro-knowledge to act as a more independent player.

JHawk, a point to add in the "Naughty vs Lou" perspective, it's important to note that Lou said that he often got angry at Naughty because he felt that Naughty was hyper-fixating on the wrong things. While Lou put hours in every day on his macro, zones, and team building, he got annoyed that Naughty was spending that time in ranked, working on his aim. He knew that Naughty could shoot straight, and the possible 1/4th of a bullet extra per magazine wouldn't make a difference. Therefore, he was more susceptible to getting angry at Naughty because he felt that Naughty had all the time in the world to fix his macro problems, but instead focused on playing ranked to improve his aim, sometimes even at the cost of focus during PL due to a bad sleep schedule.
@aaronboothe1842 Жыл бұрын
Macro is determined by the igl/coach, so this doesnt really make sense. Naughty, as the roller fragger, is basically only supposed to shoot his gun. So getting his aim perfected is the only goal he really has. Not prioritizing his sleep schedule for pro league is an issue though.

@@aaronboothe1842 That is not true at all. Most teams in NA and other regions split their macro-duties between the members of the team. On OpTic you got literally all 3 players figuring out their macro together, same goes for XSET (2 incredibly successful teams). Just to name 2 examples, there are more tho. IGL-ing doesn't mean you do all the macro work for their team + microing them when needed to. That's just what some of the most authoritarian IGLs in the scene tend to do (like Sweet or Zer0), but it's definitely not what Lou had in mind when he started teaming with Alb and Naughty.

It must not be easy to mention chemistry when you analyze teams, so I really admire how fair and based you were on the third point, lou needed to trust naughty more and vice versa. Maybe if Mac took a role more similar to reps in team chemistry they couldve worked those things out… I feel this video is a perfect visualization of why 3 cracked players wont necessarily be a cracked team, personalities and past experiences take a HUGE role in a teams success and I always underestimated that when picking my horses. 25:50 - that point about communication in high stress situations is so on point. Even tho we as viewers enjoy the screaming and passionate comms on teams like this, it's so detrimental to their actual success. Like it or not, the totally emotionless, clear and concise comms of teams like OpTic are probably the most effective way of handling these kinds of situations. I also really appreciate you trying to look at things from everyone's perspective. Sure from the outside it may seem as if Lou broke apart the team because of his ego or whatever, but if you take your time to watch through their matches, it becomes really apparent that their dynamic was totally screwed towards the end of their time teaming together. Departing from that environment is honestly the best possible solution at that point.

After watching that clip of them trying to setup and Lou kept getting knocked, trying to get to his deathbox. And Naughty missed the revive by 1 second and Lou got mad at him. The way Alb tried to get them to move past it and kept trying to get them to focus was really commendable. You could tell Alb desperately wanted to make this team work. I also feel bad for Naughty constantly feeling like he can't do anything without criticism
@ProtoRhyme Жыл бұрын
If you are the leader of a group, and you tell them to go up, but 1 of them goes left and the other goes diagonally up. Regardless of whether or not going up is the right choice, if your group isn't doing what you, the defacto leader, wants to be done, how can you be sure what the real problem is? There is no opportunity to realize going up is not the right call, because its not being done properly. Lou does occasionally admit, he makes mistakes like throws bad utility when Mac brings it up, so he is at least a bit self aware. But I do agree that Lou is the main problem of the group. He wants to be in control of everything, so the slightest deviation in micro, stands out as a problem which is shown by his lack of trust in Naughty and Mac's calls, whenever they make any.

Constructive criticism: I got a bit confused when going through problem #1 because I didn't have the basics laid out--i.e., where they normally landed, which POIs they like, etc. The video kind of launched into digging into what went wrong in Regional Finals by talking about the team comp, and I think it would have been nice (if formulaic) to just get those basics out of the way in the very beginning. Or, alternatively, just hint at what is going to go wrong in regional finals before going into problem #2
@AyeJHawk Жыл бұрын
That’s good feedback. Honestly at first I wasn’t going to include the “change part” of the problem #1 and it was just going to be time. But then I started talking about how they picked up their stride with the comp change and then on my research I saw they changed it again later and just tossed it in there without much thought. I tried to save the POIs for the second problem to make it hit harder but you’re right, I probably should’ve given the usual “foundation” of their stuff first

@@AyeJHawk yeah other people might have different opinions! Just mine. (Killer video by the way. The extended clip of Lanimals in the cart by Frag East was devastating to watch, very well done.) I also imagine that there is a minority of more casual viewers who don't know much about comp and could use the initial grounding in what's going on right off the bat.

Whilst I absolutely agree with your point at 14:48 , it kinda is an unfortunate situation. As a NRG fan, they would always rotate through landslide for a zone like that with their zone comp. However relegation candidates NXS would often sit top landslide instead of rotating, so NRG had to go the other way and caught LANimals off guard. Kinda a butterfly effect
@AyeJHawk Жыл бұрын
yeah I actually had recorded a whole 30 second bit about that but deleted it cause tbh as a pro team you definitely should be aware that NRG's rotates were being griefed and they should've adjusted accordingly. Gotta know that stuff
@kadin5623 Жыл бұрын
@@AyeJHawk no doubt, I think that also is a consequence of dropping at different poi’s in different matchdays. So much to remember, that they prob assumed nrg was chillin on their rotates

25:00 I can't hear lou asking him to take high spot in the middle. He just said "focus on the middle" which naughty assume "look at the middle" ( and shot anything at the middle).. Mac also screaming loud and so many bombarment, so I can't hear a thing..
@AyeJHawk Жыл бұрын
he said "yeah yeah Naughty fly up" but the up got cut in half it sounds like. Certainly could've been more specific but he also pinged in front of him while saying it so put two and two together and there ya go

@@AyeJHawk And Naughty was up just not on the spot that Lou was talking about. I didn't see any pings yet Naughty was getting blamed for this.

@@andis9076 the point being that Lou could've at least pinged instead of vaguely saying "fly up" which could totally mean anything at that point in chaos.

Feel bad for Alb. Hes trying to keep a level head on Rampart, which at a high level requires ridiculous micro-management, whilst Lou blames his team even though he isnt listening and Naughty plays like a player who peaked at Plat div 3 and is deaf

This was so tragic this whole split was crazy no one really kept their same position in the leader boards other than xset.

Yeah... I honestly cant say that I can remain a Lou fan. His holier than thou and condescending attitude really rubs me the wrong way. He lacks accountability as it was always naughty's fault.

You're the best man amazing video and like always you are 100% right. they were my fav team I loved them since they formed not long I know but its apex this is the pro scene. Its upsetting but sometimes things just don't work im not gonna shit talk anyone I like them all to much, I will say this tho since it wasn't mentioned in the video Mac got screwed a little here. the dude did fix a lot of his past mistakes and worked hard to keep the team together I can think of 2 instances over the split maybe 3 where he was a little like the old Mac but I don't think that's fair he tried damn hard to make this work and seeing him on stream or hearing him rather made me so sad. I hope it works out well for everyone.

Of course theres always gonna be a star player or one that excells consistently and it’s just up to the other two to accept and for the star player to be humble enough so that the other two can work with him and not be annoyed to the point that they lose each other.
