Aymara in Bolivia celebrate the year 5525

(21 Jun 2017) Indigenous Aymara people in Bolivia celebrated the beginning of a New Year on Wednesday by performing rituals and celebrations at the Tiwanaku Temple, 45 kilometres (27 miles) east of the capital La Paz.
According to the Aymara calendar, this is the year 5,525.
People gathered at the ruins of Tiwanaku to watch the sunrise and to receive the sun rays during a celebration known in Aymara as "willkakuti." or return of the sun.
The celebration is a national holiday in Bolivia, and in parts of northern Chile and Argentina.
In southern Peru it is a celebration known as "Inti Raymi", or celebration of the sun in Quechua.
The ruins, one of the most important archaeological sites in Bolivia, are the remains of one of the most remarkable pre-Colombian civilisations in the Americas.
The celebration also has a very practical meaning as it marks the beginning of the harvest season.
The festival is becoming ever more popular, attracting hundreds of tourists from all over the world.
