Thailand's romanization started more than 100 years ago during King Rama VI who was educated in English boarding school for several years when he was till a prince. The system was later standardized by Royal Society of Thailand and all official road signs/places adopt this system. Roman alphabets are not confined only to English/American languages. Almost all European languages adopt Roman alphabets as their main writing system except Greece and Russia. Some non-European countries also do likewise including Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Even though most non-European countries have their own native writing system, they still adopt romanization to help foreigners recognize and pronounce road/place names including Thailand, China (pinyin) and Japan (romaji). Westerners or those who learn English as a second language must accept the fact that those romanized words are not necessarily pronounced like English/American common pronunciation. It is easy to adapt once you know how the native pronounce it. In Thailand, "PH" is pronounced aspirated P (people) while "P" is pronounced non-aspirated P (papa). "KH" is pronounced like "King" such as "Ramkhamhaeng" while "K" is pronounced like "Gong" such as "Krungthep". "TH" is pronounced aspirated T such as "Take" while T is pronounced non-aspirated T such as "one ton". "CH" is pronounced as "J" (jar) such as Chatuchak. It can also be pronounced as "CH" (chat) such as Chang beer.

@ayngelina Sorry if you have been offended but this is not about being rude, in Canada the majority speaks English but in your case you have not studied it, you simply speak it and rather you should also speak French like the others.
@ayngelina

You are being rude. You don’t know my educational background so why would you assume I didn’t study English. For your reference I did take advanced English throughout my studies including university along with French. And now I also speak Spanish so perhaps you keep your keyboard warrior comments to yourself.

Yes, it was very hot there and I also felt the heat affecting my body and mood. I found iced coffee right away. You definitely need to spend more time in Thailand, as I had probably the best time there for food. Check out my Michelin food tour video in Bangkok. Amazing pad thai experience.

You know I’m not a fan of the Michelin guide. I’ve been to too many spots that were just ok and when they expanded to Toronto it just confirmed my suspicions of bias and lazy investigation of the truly best spots. I find local bloggers to be a much better source.

In Toronto you would pay the same +/- for two croissants and two drinks. Have you been to Starbucks lately?

Lol I know! Before I published this I almost cut that section because it was ridiculous that I said that. I did misunderstand the order and thought it was one croissant but still it was very reasonable and I look so cheap hahaha

Ayng, do you find that Thailand is still affordable, or do you think that it’s now charging international prices?
@ayngelina
@ayngelina Жыл бұрын
Well I heard it’s getting pricey and I did find it more expensive than Indonesia and Malaysia but it’s tough to compare because it was just a weekend and the capital city is always more expensive. I’m going to try to go back in a October for longer.

I'm going to try to go back to the Philippines before the end of the year so I'll compare but just based on what some expats have mentioned on my Vietnam posts I think people are finding Thailand expensive. There's actually a great channel by another Canadian that I watch even though I don't want to retire there (or maybe I will) called Retired Working for You.
