One of the greatest movies I've ever seen. Terrific music, terrific story, terrific acting. Story angered and saddened me. That a bunch of CEO's of pharmaceutical companies cared nothing for the lives of people in poor African countries that they would treat them like human guinea pigs knowing the world wouldn't care what happened to them. Fortunately there was justice. Shame on you critics (and you know who you are!) for not giving this movie a higher rating, to me it gets an A plus all around. The movie moves in a circle of redemption when the character (played by Ralph Fiennes) sacrifices his life to be with the woman he loved who sacrificed her life to help these people.
@riversofrhythm22866 жыл бұрын
In the movie there was justice and there was some justice after the meningitis testing incident in Kano, Nigeria on which the story was loosely based. Sadly, there are more incidents of this type of behaviour from pharmaceutical companies in Africa. African people are dispensable to big pharma. It is the white man's wold.

I screen this film in my film classes from time to time. One of my favorite films and directors. Such a beautiful song. After the screening, I show the class how the film uses a screenwriting technique called setup and payoff and how the song Kothbiro becomes an aural link. I also let them know how the use of the song becomes a leitmotif. Luo nyatiti (an eight-string traditional lyre).
@Andrew-ib7gs3 жыл бұрын
Yes it was a very good film, beautifully shot and the casting was perfect. The screen adaptation really did the novel justice, hard to achieve often times in source material of such high quality.. I just finished re reading it. I'm working my way through all the Le Carre I've read before and the odd bits I haven't as my own little tribute to him after he died in December 2020. He was alwaya kind of pigeon holed I think as a great spy writer rather than just a great writer. I'm struck in re reading the Constant Gardener with just how beautiful and brilliant the prose is. Literature like art of any kind is entirely subjective of course and not, or shouldn't be, competitive but honestly I don't think there are many writers who could touch Le Carre at his best. A humanitarian, a proud European, a master at Eton and an Oxford graduate who joined MI5, he turned down a knighthood as he loathed imperialsm. He said Brexit broke his heart. I'd have loved to have met him.

Yes; his name was Ayub Ogada. He passed in 2019. The song is a translation of a traditional song, ‘Kothbiro (rain is coming),’ played on the Luo nyatiti, a traditional eight-string lyre.
@AltairdeAlmeida11114 жыл бұрын
A Beautiful song that we use in Biodanza, a beautiful system of Transformation. Ayub Ogada ( aka Job Seda) was a class mate from the 1970’s at The Duke of York school ( Lenana) , Nairobi, Kenya. I believe he originally wrote this while still in school. The tune is from a Luo ( tribe near Lake Victoria in Kenya) dirge, hence the haunting sadness, though the words of the song are not sad. There are KZbin videos of him talking about his music etc He comes across as a humble and authentic gentleman. RIP 🙏🏾

Being a health care worker, I had the vaccine 2 days ago. There is no comparison between the testing of the COVID vaccine on volunteers and forced trials on unsuspecting children. We need to root out such abuses, but we also need to do legitimate testing. So far we have not been testing the current vaccines on children, and at this point we aren’t giving them to kids because safety in those under 16 has not been established. There have been improvements, if not in ethics, then at least in oversight.
