Dallas finally came up for the weekend and I take a break from shed hunting and take him fishing with my friend Tom and his dad Darren to a local fishing hole for some Rainbow and Brown Trout. We didn’t go to Alaska this year to hit the salmon runs so we need to make time for some Arizona fishing trips. Dallas and I both catch 2 brown trout on a short half day trip.
Thanks for watching.

A lot of people don't realize due to drought, heat and pressure those streams cant support a lot of wild brown trout. A few groups of people going down over the summer and keeping 2-3 of the best big breeding fish can wipe out an area. That's already happened in most areas on the rim. In hunting we need tags due to supply and demand - to not deplete the population. Of course people can keep the fish up there, but the next time you might consider throwing those big breeding fish back to support the population. It's not the same as all the areas stocked by game and fish.

@@RogueOutdoorsmen Your comment seems to contradict your Instagram. "rogueoutdoorsmen Dallas said this might be the biggest trout he’s caught in Arizona. Since we blindfolded him, he thought maybe we snuck him on a plane to Alaska somehow." If you were in a creek that allows you to take the fish, then it's legal, but not a sustainable practice for AZ creeks. I would assume you would want your children and grandchildren to be able to catch wild browns in AZ. Being from the White Mountains, I would also assume you know how fragile the ecosystems are in AZ. Nice job on all the shed hunting and happy fishing...
@RogueOutdoorsmen
@RogueOutdoorsmen 5 жыл бұрын
Wayne Miiller LOL, does it though? No contradiction, simply “his” biggest AZ fish. I’ve seen browns twice that big come out of there. Been fishing that creek my whole life, the topography keeps the lazy people out. You do realize that Brown trout are not native to Arizona, right? What about the ecosystem change of having those predatory browns in that creek? I wonder if your grandpa was up in arms about destroying the local ecosystem when AZGF first introduced them here in the 30’s? There is a 4% mortality rate with catch and release fishing, even higher the more you handle the fish. We catch fish to eat them, same reason we aren’t out in the woods hunting deer/elk with tranq guns, just to take a picture with them.

As an AZ Fly angler I agree these are huge fish indeed and should be thrown back. But you cant take your big ol ham and egger net and dump the fish in the dirt a couple of times and think that throwing it back would allow it to survive. Stick to the 32 Ford, and she got legs Dusty.

I sure do, praise be to god for these “anglers”. If I ever saw one practice such a thing, he would get a pat on the back. My sentiments exactly the trout the swim down the dam spillways are stuck. How successful the traped trout are in surviving I can't say, but it's long odds. Drought, small dried up pools and low oxygen in summer. Long snowy cold winter's under ice ... so might as well harvest those instead.
