You know what? Everybody is talking about Azathoth awakening and the universe coming to an end but there's something scarier: *Azathoth starts lucid dreaming.*

@stephenjay22096 жыл бұрын
He can't lucid dream. At least, not as we understand it. He is the center of all madness, a creature in the heart of every atom. An infinity of selves, looking back upon itself. He is effectively trapped in an obscene universe where order and Euclidean geometry attempt to impose itself on the chaos he sees as the natural order. His lucidity is madness and entropy incarnate, experiencing all states of matter, dimension and time simultaneously. We would not survive it.

It kinda sounds like, what I find is the best description, the calls of some kind of alien whale beast. But it's only a whale in such a way that a Star Spawn is a squid beast. And then it keeps going. And then there's a heartbeat, but only in the way one considers the roar of waves as a purring kitten.
@muffinauraisin11718 жыл бұрын
+Der Ritter You call it a whale beast, but if we stay true to Lovecraft's work, we should simply assume it to be something we can't imagine. Even if we had seen it, we wouldn't be able to comprehend it, and insanity would ensue. P.S. I like to think the creatures coming from Lovecraft's univers are beings that, unlike everything on earth, don't consist of the same atoms and compositions that we do. Being from another universe, our laws don't apply to them. Just like imaginating a diffrent universe where a specific law of physics doesn't apply, we can't understand how it might be. (Sorry about that, it's just the way I like to think of The mythos, thought it might be interesting.)
@DerRitter78 жыл бұрын
muffin auraisin I kinda know most of this already. Also, the creatures from The mythos don't come from another universe, they just exist in more dimensions than we do (well, the Old Ones and Outer Gods do at least. The rest are just really weird aliens.) Hence the M.C. Escher-esque architecture that you usually read about in his stories.
@muffinauraisin11718 жыл бұрын
+Der Ritter I thought men of science already assumed that we only had 4 dimentions, and that only something from another univers could have more, but i might be wrong.
@DerRitter78 жыл бұрын
muffin auraisin certainly, in the case of real life science. But we aren't talking about real life science, now are we? In the context of the Mythos, advanced technology is capable of simulating magic, the Old Ones are "only" highly advanced alien life forms, and God is an insane and idiotic being that has to be kept sleeping lest he destroy reality. When talking about the Mythos, just forget about what 'We' know.

I finished the book, sent off 10 different query letters to agents about a week ago, will be sending more next week, it's a historical fiction, written in diary entries, surrounding the events that occured at the villa diodati in the summer of 1816. it was the date and place that Mary shelley drafted frankenstein and john polidori created the Vampyre, the first modern interpritation of vampire folk law. My book follows a girl who visits the villa diodati in the present, findining by accident a large red half burned book, which is the diary of the real Dr Victor frankenstein, along with it she finds a vial of green Liquid with tranformative and galvonistic properties. we then follow the girl walking in victors footsteps, unearthing the true story of the villa diodati and the origin of the green liquid. so bassically think of a more modern book version of Hammer Horror and that's what I'm going for lol, oh and re-animator as well, I've only seen the movies of that though lol

Its the moment before wake-up. When all the sentient powers that be in all realms face final oblivion saturated in the knowledge they were simultaneously both meaningless and part of something greater. As the dream ends and the eyes of eternity open, for one instant too brief to even fathom, we will all be remembered and felt. Like ascending. For that one brief moment we will have tasted eternity. Before we are lost. Bitter sweet ending. Those last five minutes are the moments before.

People forget the main point, we the readers are azathoth. When you sleep and experience a moment of a dream, whoa to say we aren't just remembering a portion of an entire universe we created. To us we were just sleeping but to the the beings in our dreams it was their whole life. Madness and chaos is infinite wherever azathoth manifests. Whos to say our dreams only seem random and strange only because we became lucid enough in that exact place.

Out in the mindless void the daemon bore me, Past the bright clusters of dimensioned space, Till neither time nor matter stretched before me, But only Chaos, without form or place. Here the vast Lord of All in darkness muttered Things he had dreamed but could not understand, While near him shapeless bat-things flopped and fluttered In idiot vortices that ray-streams fanned. They danced insanely to the high, thin whining Of a cracked flute clutched in a monstrous paw, Whence flow the aimless waves whose chance combining Gives each frail cosmos its eternal law. “I am His Messenger,” the daemon said, As in contempt he struck his Master’s head.

i was reading some articles about debates regarding azathoth (yes very redundant i know) and i am absolutely blown away at how little people understand about this monstrosity. I read one person say "if other gods have the ability to keep azathoth asleep by playing music, then he isn't omnipotent". but the problem with that argument is that those bangings of vile drums and accursed flutes are doing nothing to keep azathoth from waking up, it is never directly stated that the music is actually preventing him from waking up. the frequent debates and even more frequent misunderstandings of how azathoth works proves just how well he was written as an intangible, incomprehensible God so far beyond human idiocy that we could never even understand how he works even on a fundamental level.
@jasoncarto5 жыл бұрын
Azathoth is the only being in any mythology i would put above the rank of a God. The very concept is so beyond its horrifying in its mystery alone. That all things simply exist as an unintentional by-product of azathoth dreaming. That in an instant as azathoth awakens, all existence ends. Thats so far beyond anything we have ever conceptualized has ever taken us.

(Final stretch of music) The torches flicked on in the central balcony of the old temple, and a glowing amber essence bled from each navigational point to the central altar. Ancient grimoire pages seemed to swirl around, materialising and disintegrating in a manner similar to the burning of flash paper reversed and then played back. With each page the imprint of a sigil was left behind in the burning, and a column of them seemed to build to the sky. The sacred drummers which kept the altar sealed began to fade as an infernal organ joined them. The altar table was then divorced from its topside, which slide to the side releasing a new surge of power to the building mass of energy. But above all, some sort of crude telescope appeared to invite use. In the distance, the ocean appeared to wince before subsequently being torn through by a rising mass of overgrown, putrid rock. Spiral staircases could be made out just barely, and that pungent smell of deep ocean seemed to outshine it. The sunken citadel of Sulaimun had risen again, after all these aeons. Will this save or destroy humanity? The full neccesity of the act would be appreciated with time either way.
