The fact this a creepy rendition of “Ave Maria” is frightening. Great job Michael Giacchino .

I really love the amount of tremolo horror strings found here. The full album was just fantastic in general. Feels more like a horror film with film noir sensability with a gothically bombastic atmosphere.

The Riddler was the latest of Batman's villains to get a truly "Batman-Esque" reboot. His depiction by Jim Carrey in Batman and Robin, while appropriately zany, did nothing to further his reputation as one of Batman's core rogues. The Batman gave him the ultimate retool that saw him transformed into a serial killer. Gicciano's theme was, incredibly creepy and original, however, it wasn't until I actually saw the film that I realized it was just a darker rendition of Ave Maria, a tune they assigned to his character as a leitmotif. It's still good, but I'm unsure how to interpret Ave Maria as a character theme. It doesn't seem to it fit Riddler's principles of meticulousness, ruthlessness, and brutal honesty. As far as his appearance goes, I still would have liked something the slightest bit closer to his comic book appearance, with a suit and hat, but I do like the use of glasses in his costume. It does feel like Riddler would use them as opposed to a mask.

Well, this is Riddler early in his career, so I think it makes sense that he wears something different. However, I do think he would get the suit and hat somewhere in the future. Sort of an evolution, if you think about it. As for the use of Ave Maria, I disagree on it not fitting Riddler’s ruthlessness, because I think it shows his tragic yet haunting nature and shows how terrifying he has become because of the renewal fund.

I think him wearing what he wears in this movie was fine because it would've messed up his plans if anyone found out who he was but if we do see him in the future and now that everyone knows him for who he is, it would be awesome to see him in a question mark covered suit and hat and I think that could look good.

I think the Ave Maria motif is supposed tp be a twisted reference to his childhood. It is explained in the movie that he was in an orphanage choir if I recall correctly.

Paul Dano did to the riddler what Heath Ledger did to the joker, a truly unforgettable depiction of a twisted, dark and somewhat sympathetic villain.
