I always liked how the film immediately puts you in the POV of it's antagonist, asking you to see things from his perspective. Also the touch of showing the mayor play with his son. It's a small thing, but it shows how despite his corruption, he loves and is loved by his family - he's fallible but not evil. It just gives him a bit more as a character.

The “fear is a tool” and “I am the shadows” monologue is one of the best parts of this movie to me. We’ve always got a sense that people were scared of Batman in a lot of movies, or at least wary of him… But in this, just the idea of Batman POSSIBLY walking out of that dark alleyway or that shady spot has men scared… To the point where fear has done half of the job for him. To see these people more scared of the bat signal more than a police helicopter above them screams how fear has infected the scum of the city… At least, the lower level of scum. Ugh, it’s just so cool. I really hope we get a second movie with this level of quality.

Well I guess the clowns NEVER got the Memo, cause IF he is known n feared WHY OH WHY ARE THEY LAUGHING AT HIM WHEN HE COMES OUT OF THE SHADOWS? IF HE'S SO WELL KNOWN/INFAMOUS/LEGENDARY...WHY dont they know who he is?🤔🤨😕 SURELY they can put 2 n 2 2gether?😐 I mean there's a Bat Signal in the sjy that they can CLEARLY SEE, and then a guy with a BAT suit shows up...he's OBVIOUSLY they guy that the news is talking about aka The BATman....so WHY is he asking what SHOULD be obvious? More to the point...IF SO SCARED THEY ARE AND FULL OF FEAR... WHY then are they NOT running away in fear?🤔🤨😕 It just DOESNT MAKE SENSE!🤷♂😑🙄 So they've taken one of the BEST moments from the trailer and done F@%#£D IT UP!🤦♂ CLEARLY its an editing mistake on the editors part😒 Itd be better if THIS scene came BEFORE the monologue as an intro to The Batman and THEN have the rest

The slow "tick-tock" of heavy steps, as if Death himself is walking up the stairs, the inexorable march towards impending doom, the countdown to beatdown. Like a killer stalking their prey a la Michael Myers, except with the roles reversed. Vengeance has arrived, and it's here to collect. Brilliant film making.

This is a masterclass in directing/cinematography. It's clear that Reeves really understood Batman. The shots on the criminals, the dark undertones, they really went out of their way to make Gotham look like a nightmare city. You can really feel their fear... the vandal who lost his paint can staring into the doorway the same way a child might be afraid to look for monsters under the bed... I also love that Batman doesn't have any grandiose entrance. You just hear the footsteps slowly emerging from the darkness. It's incredible.
@pauldickinson3961 Жыл бұрын
I can never get over how Batman is introduced in this movie. We see how criminals see him before we see him for ourselves. They're not just afraid of him as a guy who might come and beat them up. They are afraid of him the way that a little kid is afraid of the monster in their closet. It's _that_ kind of fear. _That_ kind of sheer, paralyzing terror. Brilliant.

This scene doesn't have a typical horror sting or a jumpscare of any sort (unlike the Batman jumping from the smoke gas scene), the scene doesn't try and trick you into feeling any emotion, if this type of thing doesn't scare you then it won't, but for a lot of people this is something terrifying to think about, being totally unaware that someone is that close to you and watching, by itself that's already more than scary. The scenes with criminals looking into the shadows, terrified of what _could_ be lurking there, are really well done too.

I love how they portray batman in his youth. Still conflicted by emotions, and you can clearly see him taking out his anger on the villain when he´s wrecking him. This is the young, inexperienced batman with a fire in his soul.. before he fully became the calculating detective we all know.

I’ve never had my heart beat so much from a movie when Batman started his monologue
@BIGDaddioJohnB2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it WAS good BUT then they go and ruin it by the clown gangs reaction 9:52 The Monologue says "We have a signal now... for when am needed, but when that light hits the sky...its not just a call, ITS A WARNING!...TO THEM!" 7:07 So its been made clear that he's WELL KNOWN throughout Gotham, and that he is KNOWN N FEARED throughout Gotham, right? Well I guess the clowns NEVER got the Memo, cause IF he is known n feared WHY OH WHY ARE THEY LAUGHING AT HIM WHEN HE COMES OUT OF THE SHADOWS? (Then again Id laugh too seeing a guy dress up like a bat😏lol, ESP one that looks SO BAD n GOOFY LOOKING!🤪 I MEAN WHAT IS WITH THAT HELMET AND THOSE HORNS👿?? Not only does it make his head look FAT, but the horns are too pointy and DOESNT go with the suit. Also whats with the BIG Clunky boots? 9:24 Batman's SUPPOSED to be stealthy like a ninja NOT BIG, STUMPY N HEAVY.🤦♂) Furthermore WTH is he asking "Who the hell are YOU supposed to be?".

2:46 The way the TV lights reflect his silhouette is taken straight out of John Carpenter's book. Even the opening POV shot has to be an homage to Carpenter's Halloween in the first 10 minutes, notably Michael Myers' first kill.

My favorite thing throughout this movie was the emphasis on Batmans footsteps, and if you pay attention the fact that they are so much heavier than everyone else's. There's one scene in particular where Gordon walks towards the camera and you can hear his footsteps sure, but then Batman follows him and he sounds 5x heavier.

i always explained how i really liked this movie because it’s almost like a direct translation from comic book reading to movie form. the narrating is like that little box where the main character explains the story/scene. a lot of the camera angles look like they can be screenshotted and put into comic form. when i first watched it, i said it felt like an animated movie shot as live action. i still feel like that but now i’m starting to feel like it’s more similar to comic reading.

The impetus to Batman’s first appearance is superbly done. The narration from Pattison draws you in, the riveting score thrills the senses and the inevitable reveal as he emerges out from the darkness is terrifically executed. That sense of foreboding when we hear his foot steps, every step as he gets closer to those goons. I love Robert’s eye and facial movements he sells batman with nuanced skill.

I love how they emphasize that most criminals know his reputation enough to feel terror just by staring into the shadows after seeing the signal, and those foolish enough to try and fight back get made an example of. and also the riddler is freaky, just the seeming relief after killing the mayor, and those low tones of Ave Maria as he readies his duct tape make me uncomfortable.

I LOVE how they had the Riddler do this kill, psychopaths are either extremely cold, precise and show no emotion, but the majority of them lose control at moments like this, when they "climax" at the pinnacle of all the feelings they've held inside. When they finally release it they lose control and I like how they had him lose control of the weapon he chose
