Fantastic blend of different cultural styles, Gaelic, Arabic, Mongolian - and only Hans Zimmer knows what else. He most definitely captured the hopeful yet inevitably tragic nature of House Atreides. Amazing, I love this.

I've listen this piece more than a dozen of times, and each time, I wondered why is it so ashtonning, without finding the key. Ok, bagpipes are badass, but that's not enough to explain the thing, this big emorional wave of mine ... then I've stopped listening with my ears, and I began to listen wirh my body, I began to dance. And I found it, I found why it is so great. That's the rythme : it use the rythme of Ravel's Bolero, the exact one. Hans Zimmer is a fucking genius.

While I love the House Atreides cue as a whole, I think Foreword is my favorite version of it in particular. Again, I love the idea of taking the cues from the Sketchbook soundtrack but slowing them down and reverbing the sounds. It gives them a religious/ancient feel to them. Giving the fact that the Atreides are descendants of Greeks, this makes more sense. I also loved hearing some epic bagpipes. They're not used all that often in film music.
@TheCroutonman2 жыл бұрын
They should have kept the Armada bit in the original recording of House Atreides. The most epic bit and it fits really well. No wonder whiy it's the most played section.
@marcodrodea32632 жыл бұрын
Love it! There is definitely a Spanish flair to the portrait of the grandfather, and the bull motifs. But that could be also honoring the Greek Milenia old ancestry that House Atreides claims to have, according to the book. In fact, Ancient Greece, most specifically the Minoans of Crete, were known for fighting bulls too. Awesome, superb!

I know what you mean but the books actually came out before Star Wars, George Lucas has admitted to taking loads of inspiration from Dune. Star Wars could not exist without Dune, the same way Game of Thrones could not exist without Tolkien. So in short I'd probably say Dune is more like if Lord of the Rings and a documentary about modern day super powers fighting over oil in the middle east had a baby would be more appropriate.

House Atreides music remind me of the Scottish military charge in the movie Braveheart. The English army seemed a bit intimidated. The bag pipes make me visualize a horde of screaming, crazed Scotsmen doing a frontal attack as I order a full retreat to the rear.
@horsthooden46002 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed Dune throughoutly, only in one case I have to disagree: The atreides music shdve been reminding of ancient Greece, Sparta, Crete or Mycenae, not of the gael. (it had charme though, very eerie) One of Pauls ancestors is named Agamemnon after all, wich is also the name of the great king of Mycenae, the greek leader in the iliad, the epic of the trojan war... And also the bull, the symbol of the atreides, is also the animal of Zeus. So I was expecting riffy 300 vibes with a more ancient touch to it. But this is still great. He made this movie for the vision his 14 year old self had in his head and I can totally respect that. The movie is a masterpiece. The soundtrack is the only thing that comes close in style (some parts definetely) and impact to the soundtrack of Samsara from Ron Fricke and Im all for it. Absolutely genius.

I like the Gaelic touch. Compared to the Harkonnen the Atreides were in harmony with nature and others and didn't destroy their planet for industrial gain, that short scene showing the Harkonnen planet, just black and smog filled, just reminded me of plunderers. Dunno why, but that's my takeaway.

Look, I know I'm late to the conversation here, and I know this wasn't used in the film... but let me tell you something: this is one of the most soothing and therapeutic tracks I have ever stumbled upon. Like "now we are free'' from Gladiator, Dune has a special place when it comes to ambient music. In this case, this track is the "now we are free" of Dune... at least for me. Especially when it comes to LOTR, it kind of gives me that "Evenstar" vibes. Hans Zimmer really knows how to make ambient tracks when it comes to meditation and reflection. It's such a damn shame that this track wasn't used anywhere in part 1, and that it hasn't received a lot of views. And if so, some people might find it to be completely boring which frustrates me. I just hope Hans Zimmer incorporates this track somewhere in part 2, particularly as a farewell. It would be lovely to hear it. Of all the tracks in the three albums of the OST, the Sketchbook and the Art and Soul of Dune, there are some pieces that I enjoy listening to. But this one is my number one favorite piece. I know for a fact that if I could choose one song at my funeral, it would be this one for sure. I would even hope to meet God one day with music in the background.
