1:33:52 unlike other countries that committed genocides and ethnic cleansing, Germany actually teaches about the genocides. From what I remember, there are plaques and statues dedicated to the people that were murdered. The best way to not repeat atrocities is to learn and teach which I think Germany is doing good on so far

I’m here for every moment of this. Bring this beautiful women back! AND she’s one of David’s day 1’s! Wow. This conversation gave me insight, it shut me up, it taught me, it supported me, it humbled me. I felt seen and I felt understood and validated but also! I felt called out and corrected. Balance! Thank you, to both of you.

listened to the episode on spotify and it was sooo good ! the talk re people seeing ghetto as something they wouldn't want to emulate is relatable. i'm asian and i recently had a conversation with some people (also asian) and when they were describing a person they met through a friend, they described them as ghetto. when i asked what they meant by that, because that doesn't... really tell me much, they kept repeating that as the descriptor for her. i knew they had negative characteristics in mind, but i wanted them to say what they actually meant and i guess own up to it in a way? idk if that makes sense. anyway, after a lot of back and forth, they eventually described her as quiet, which is totally different from what people think of when they hear the word "ghetto"? it was an odd conversation because even though i was simply asking for them to define her with like.... different characteristics, they kept defending ? their use of ghetto as a descriptor as if it's sufficient / assumed that we have the same definition of it

Oh man the chat you guys had over religion and sins, is so on point for me. Being Korean British the amount of arguments I've had with my mum over that is insane. I'll say you can't hate homosexuality and do all the sins you do. Telling lies is a sin, getting divorced is a sin, gluttony is a sin and so much more normal things Christians throw under the bed. Im a Christian too but as I said to my mum you can't pick and choose which part of the bible you wanna believe in, you either follow it all or don't take every line was was written 2000 years ago literally.

Hello, German here and I can say I'm a 1000% certain, that every student as soon as they hit the ripe age of 11-13 years they get teached so much about the Holocaust in school. It's too much and they almost don't learn about any other important History events... Great Podcasts, you do great!!🙃

I really enjoyed this podcast. Especially the part about trying to assimilate. I’m a gen z Asian kid with Asian peers that say things such as “I wish to have white neighbors” or “I hate my own culture” which sounds stupid af to me. What’s also wild to me is the fact that my asian peers want to dissociate themselves from me based on the fact that I act/talk “ghetto”. This weird behavior of self hate and wanting to fit in is absurd to me. So thank you David and Megan for talking about a plethora of topics that my generation fails to talk about. Been watching you since I was a lil kid, I appreciate what you’ve done and representing the other side of Asian culture in America.

As a black young woman raised by an ultra religious mom, dad and grandmother, I am at the age where I am consistently having these hard conversations about my new realized belief system. I recently had this conversation with my Nana and said the same things about cherry picking sins. I am of the mindset that I am not going to sit up and lie in God's face about who I am, what I am, and what I know I am going to do or not do. If the God I believe knows me, made me perfect, but still says that I'm not good enough for x sin I committed, then I'm just going to be a good person and love human beings. I think its very important to have these conversations, and as we get older and live our authentic selves to stand ten toes for those beliefs. Love this episode. Thanks for the 3hrs!

1:59:06 The signing of the Emancipation Proclamation was a literal political move. Lincoln chose to sign to stop the war from worsening, not because he was empathetic to the enslaved people. It’s like the equivalent of giving two toddlers both a cookie because they started fighting with each other when only one had a cookie. It was a move to keep the peace. This also speaks to how much American history has been revised and altered as well. Just like they made us believe in elementary school that the indigenous people were just overjoyed to help the colonizers and give them their crops/resources… Great time listening to y’all, can’t wait to have Megan back again!

I've never seen two people have such a disconnected conversation about two different people and never even realize it. How David not realize that she wasn't even talking about Azelia Banks when she started mentioning White Privilege in a black space, BBL, and using a culture. The slip up of names was one thing but it was a whole deep dive into someone not even involved.

around 1:33:30 ish, they said the germans don't teach aout the holocaust. The broader point is correct because a lot of countries don't teach about their atrocities, but (correct me if im wrong), Germany is apparently pretty good about teaching about the nazis and trying not to repeat stuff like that.

First of all, i love this podcast and i am a long time viewer. I love the longer format! However i do have to point out, that the point made about education in germany, where you assume that german education does not cover the holocaust is wrong. If any country teaches about the horrific things that happened at the holocaust, it is germany and they actually make sure of it. I do agree that colonist european countries do not teach enough about slavery or even any kind of exploitation through colonisation. For context, i say this out of experience as i am an asian person growing up in europe. They indeed just brush over those chapters of history.
