That was a "diplomatic" response to some Kazakhstani official who said that they don't know yet what caused it, and mentioned it could've been a gas cylinder inside the plane, so Azerbaijani Airlines were quick to state that they're sure it was external interference. Until the end of the official investigation they can't point any fingers, but indirectly the Azerbaijani side are letting the involved parties know that they won't accept any BS story, in case Kazakhstan decides to try and cover up for Russia

It was clearly an accident by the air defense, but there are 2 problems: 1 - They didn't close the airspace for the time of the drone attack, which they should've done 2 - Once they realised they shot an airplane, they didn't allow it to land at any of the nearby airports, sending it across the sea in hopes it would crash there and no one will find out the real cause... And the 2nd is the most distubing. The only "right" way for Russia to act right now and I think that's what they're gonna do would be to acknowledge the mistake, pay the victims a good sum, so they don't go to international courts, and punish the scape goat demonstratively, that most likely is gonna be a dispatcher of the airport

I believe the pilots probably reported a bird strike as they had no idea what else could have happened and this is the cause of these reports. But if a bird strike took out an engine and this then caused the shrapnel that took out the hydraulics, they would have never gotten that far with just one engine. The plane was obviously in a phugoid so cut the crap already...

This is an inhuman act. Russia😡 army shot down Azerbaijan passenger plane with a missile near the city of Grozny. As a result, 38 people died and 29 people were injured. For this incident, Russia should admit its mistake and apologize for its. #aircraft #J28243

Russia and Putin has already apologized. The big elephant in the room of course was that a Ukraine drone attack was occurring. Given this was Russian airspace, then the multiple attempts to land (and abort) was due to a Ukraine drone attack that was occurring at that time. I been wondering WHY the plane had to abort multiple attempts at landing - no reason for this explain has surfaced until now (the reason being the Ukraine drone attack was occurring). Ultimately, with Ukraine attacks occurring in that region, then no commercial flights should have been allowed in that Russian controlled airspace. It is not clear if the drone was hit/destroyed, and that caused damage to the airliner, or that the airliner was hit directly by AAA fire from the ground SAM systems that were dealing with the Ukraine drone attack occurring on that airport. Or if the airliner was hit, or had hit one of the drones. So not clear yet if the landing aborts (3 of them) were the result of drones in the area, or if in fact those drones were in targeting the airliner and preventing it from landing.

However, as I stated, that 41 year old incident has little relevance in this discussion - no more so then the USA shoot down of the AirBus in 1988.
