The BIGGEST RV Inverter I've Ever Installed!!

This 2007 Country Coach Prevost Bus had a 8000watt dimensions inverter go bad. An inverter of this size is very uncommon. It's also 24VDC and 240VAC so I did not have too many options with replacement. Due to parts unavailability I went with 2 each Victron 5000watt 24VDC inverter chargers as a replacement. This was also my first Victron installation. So join me as I try to figure it out.
Victron 3000watt inverter/charger: amzn.to/2WVXMcH
Victron Cerbo: amzn.to/2VmTE4u
Victron display: amzn.to/3njzy6C

Man I actually did a Laugh Out Loud when you mentioned being scared to "Fleep D Sweetch" because I've been in that same spot many times! If you ain't scared, you've become complacent and that's what kills people. You did an jam-up job! The things that I always watch for is Sparks, Smoke and Smell...One time I was setting up a solar panel setup on my brother-in-law's ClassA and at the exact time I made all the connections LIVE, one of the jackass's that worked for him put something in the shop microwave and it had a foil lined wrapper which of course started sparking and making all the noises you don't want to hear at that time in particular. I jumped all over that dude like he just ran over my dog and he supposedly had no idea I was there ( I was supposed to be all alone). That's my kind of luck though! LoL

Nice install. You need to setup the AC input setting on the Cerbo GX in order to show the AC input on the display. The inverters are also in storage mode. That will need to be turned off using the MK3 or the charger will only charge the batteries to 80%. Victron converters come in storage mode by default. I’d also check and make sure that “switch as group” is disabled or they will not have any AC power at all when connected to 30 amp power.

Well done. Having spent July in Quartzsite myself, I'd just consider one more thing. Namely, the storage temp range and operating temp range of the Victrons, and maybe adding temp sensors in that bay and inside the inverters. I know that some Victron charge controllers already provide for temp sensor inputs, for purposes such as controlling battery heaters or doing hi/lo temp charging cutoff. I have no idea whether these inverters or their display have that same provision, of if you'd need a separate device. Now that people have cheap stand-alone WiFi or BlueTooth thermometers in their little 12V compressor fridges or monitoring RV air temp for their pets while they grocery shop, it might be nice to do so for this critical system, even if it needs to be cobbled to a different display or only accessible via an app on their phone.

James, Excellent job! Very well done. The system is 120/240 volt single phase. Nothing more needs to be said about it. When the screen was showing L1 and L2 watts and combined watts, you take the combined number/240 and the L/120 to get amps. I’m not sure what scares you about AC, but you did pretty well! Only thing I saw that wasn’t quite right was the Romex connector on the FNT at the 50amp box with breaker. Thanks for the video! Very respectfully, Kevin BTW. This one got into some of my professional world (kind of)!

Did everything work out OK with cooling? I love victron gear, but all the cooling is designed to be mounted upright. I also have my victron multiplus on its back like this (Just a little 3000) and the only problem I ever has was temperature related - Its under my couch and I ended up installing a temperature controlled fan on the front of the couch. Keep in mind that a 5000 Victron is NOT a 5000 watt sadly, they use a different rating, not true watts... example, the 3000 Multiplus is closer to 2500 WATTS, it's VA they use.
@EfficientRVer
@EfficientRVer 2 жыл бұрын
Generators sometimes play the VA vs watts game also. And if your ratio of 5/6 applies to this Victron setup, you can note that 5/6 x 10,000 is 8333 watts. So a better match to the 8000 original, than 10,000 would be.
