I’m in over my head. I bought the battle born batteries and the Victron 3000 multipass. Can I make it work without all the other accessories on this diagram? The SPS is out of stock I have no idea how to replace that. Do hi just replace the inverterThat I currently have with the Victron? The inverter I currently have will not charge lithium ion batteries. Please help! No service center in my area will take a customer for over two months. I’m feeling like I should send all of the stuff back. And stick with deep cycle batteries and get through the season.

@@YourFrugalFriend I didn’t see that diagram. I did buy the switch. Can you link the diagram for me? Also, am I correct in understanding the switch is to select between 30 amp and 50 amp because 30 is single phase and 50 is dual phase? My knowledge of electrical is low but I’m learning.

Perfect timing for me too. I installed a MP 3000/12 myself with 400ah BB batteries and 600w solar on a 30a trailer last spring. We loved the lifestyle so much I upgraded us to a 50a fiver this past fall. I bought the SPS over the winter and have been staring at it and pondering since. Yesterday I uncovered the fiver, rubbed my hands together and started in. And this morning, I find your video. Wala! It all makes sense now. Thank you so much Jared!!

Now my wife won't have to watch me pore over wiring diagrams every night for hours. It was a ton of fun to do myself. The biggest challenge was fitting into my space and routing all of the cables. Thanks for your very informative videos. I have just finished a nearly identical 30 amp set up this week and it's awesome! I spent several months scouring KZbin for videos that I could really understand and your videos made me a little more relaxed when I was freaking out about the complexity of it all. The connection to the distribution panel was the most mysterious part of it for me so when I started running out of time and patience I ended up paying an installer $1300 to wire it up. But I couldn't be happier now. 800 watts of solar and 300 amp hours of battle born batteries with a 60 amp solar charge controller and 3000 watt multiplus has been perfect for me so far.
@inmyimage1081
@inmyimage1081 4 жыл бұрын
Can you share what was included in that $1300? Seems awfully high for just labor on a one day job so I'm wondering what parts and materials were included in that cost? Thx
@manyowefew1
@manyowefew1 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately $1300 was just 10 hours of labor at $130 an hour. The wires, fuse, etc were another $400ish. The labor included making custom battery cables, connection to inverter, connection to charge controller, connection to distribution panel (AC and 12v) as well as installation of shunt/battery monitor, disconnect switch, and fuse. I installed the solar panels (including wiring) and mounted the batteries, inverter, and charge controller. They had quoted me at 5 to 10 hours and it ended up taking them more than 10 hours but they only charged me for 10. It definitely is pricey and I struggled with which installer to go with. I got lower quotes and I got higher quotes but I wanted to be sure the person I went with really knew how to do it properly. Customer service and warranty was key for me considering the huge investment in components. I’m very happy with what I’ve got now! Good luck!

@bassone1
@bassone1 4 жыл бұрын
for the price of the switch you can almost buy another multi-plus and get true 3000 watts on each leg, instead of splitting the 3000 watts in half. Plus the victrons are set up to function as true split phase. Don't waist you money on a switch that expensive and a little dangerous if it malfunctions one time.

I've been a pool electrician for 40 years and I also wired houses. I can't tell you how many times people have asked me for a brief explanation of how the control system works. Their eyes almost immediately glazed over andaz intently as they try to listen I know they're lost. I had to stop years ago and figure out a way to explain the control systems to people who were not electricians. Busbar, shunt, contactor, relay and language I spoke every day about it just sent them into orbit. I saw the electricians comment about what a wonderful job you did of explaining it. What you didn't see is the thousands of people who shot the video off glazed over. As I watched I thought I can hear the remote clicking right now. The most critical aspect in teaching it's to make sure people understand every word, because once they don't understand a word all they do is try and figure out what it means and lose track. You will do far more good adjusting you're teaching to the absolute Layman. you literally need to break it down the kindergarten Electric. It's not just you, I watch several videos all week on RV solar, you certainly are not alone. if you're truly trying to teach people how to do what you've done you need to rethink your process. Although I have seen several people who are just trying to impress people with their intelligence. I don't know if you realize it but you had a six minute sales pitch for the products you were using before you ever got to one word about what you were actually doing. I don't know if it was intentional but I do know that many guys out there are pimpin for free product from manufacturers. if you really want to help people stop with the six minutes of sales pitch use that time to explain busbars, relays Etc in detail to a 9th grader. thanks for your time and effort I hate to see you waste it.
@AllAboutRVs
@AllAboutRVs 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice but I actually think I should have spent more time talking about the two main devices and their function which would come across as more of a sales pitch but is actually the majority of the questions in emails I’ve received. I had to explain the Hybrid Inverter and SPS features and functions to show how we were going to use them to power the entire RV like I mentioned in the first 20 sec of the video. I leave some of the details of the shunt and busbars to the other videos that I cover those so each video doesn’t become repetitive and over 40 min. You may not see it the same way but I hope that helps you see why I laid it out the way I did.

This, plus solar panels and controllers for them, is not hugely more than an Onan generator when buying new. It is more, but if you ever sell your RV, and most people eventually do, a used generator depreciates hugely because buyers normally doubt they have been maintained. Solar panels and lithium batteries require no maintenance and have lifespans of decades, so therefore have a higher resale value. Total cost to install, use for 2 to 5 years, and sell will be less for solar, plus the silence means you can run it all night in a campground that has a generator curfew. If you already have an RV with a generator, the economics are less attractive, until and unless your generator dies.

Great video, thanks for the diagrams. I already had all the parts and had started. Now I will change some of the control wiring from the auto transfer switch. The new transfer manual switch will add some safety. Which does happen from time to time at RV parks....I really like having the diagrams to post in bay for the day something doesn"t work...Thanks.

You video helped a bit. I have a 50amp rv that came with a factory inverter, but no instructions on how to use it. I have a side by side fridge that if I understand right, I might be able to power it using 15amps + batteries (4 deep cycle 6 volt solar charged)?

Great new video. I've been banging my head against the wall on the set up I wanted. I really wanted the Multiplus, but wasn't excited about a manual transfer switch. This set up and explanation have me set on the direction I'm taking my electric set up. It's going to have to be in phases, but the inverter and batteries are first. Thanks!

What would I not accomplish if I didn't install a smart phase selector or a manual switch. Is this for rv parks that have bad power to RV. Thanks for all the knowledge.

Without the switch you would only power half the panel in a 50 amp RV when off grid and it wouldn’t have full function of the power assist when connected to anything less than 50 amps

I've been following you for quite a while and I love the way you explain everything I was building this setup that you were talking about but when it comes to the smart phase selector it is no longer available they do not make it all they're going to do is make a few more but there is a waiting list anyways so there's no use of going on it I have to go with a manual transfer switch I'm adding solar panels to the roof where would I go into the system so when I'm boondocking I can get the solar panel power and if I need more it would come from the battery Bank what would I need to add to the system that you built in this video to do that

Excellent Jared. I was about to suggest that AMSolar makes a smart phase selector, then there it was. Boom! I've been recommending those to 50A owners who ask about inverter installs, but I've never wired one up. Thanks. Now I can refer to this video.

Super educational and clean video. Thank you. I'm planning to put in my RV two Victron Quattro's and two generators. Does that mean I will need two automatic Transfer switches ? As you probably know quattro has two inputs one for shore line and one for generator.

Great Video!!!! I have installed the unit and have the rotary switch installed with only the one jumper. Seems to me that the Neutral is only there when the inverter is on? How does the incoming neutral get to the RV breaker box with the neutral from the invertor always on. IS there a problem with this as it sits. Also my smart Dogle only sees the battery voltage and temperature. Why does it not see the inverter functions like It is supposed to. Bought the 6 pin connection cord for dogle to invertor output, and electrically it is hooked up correctly. is there a set up page that I missed in the set up, I wonder?

The dongle doesn't come come with a cable so I thought it was the same cable that the BMV 712. I was wrong!!! I put the right RJ45 cable in and restarted the app, and wow there it was with all the settings. It's too bad Victron did add a RJ 45 cable with the dongle, it would help with folks like me, :) :) Again, just wanted to say what a great video, and I have watched it several times along with your other videos. I have a brand new Grand Design 2021 (303 RLS) and as we go on our big camping adventure this year, we will have this great electrical system to help us enjoy dry camping. Thanks again for a great video, and I do subscribe!!

Hi Jerry I saw this video a month ago I appreciate your time to make it and show what the proper way it should be done at the time I went to your website and saw the auto transfer switch you recommend on Amazon and it's not the same model on your video? I also looked for it going off the am solar sticker on it thinking they sold it. But their not showing it on their website either. The one on Amazon I'm seeing has a plastic box and the reviews are terrible my question is where can I get the one you had in the video or is it discontinued. Any help is appreciated btw the diagrams on your site are awesome. Thanks for your dedication to the RV community helping people in their journey To see the world.

If you use 2 victron multi plusses, would that eliminate the need for the sps? I know it cost about 2 times as much but seems like that may be simpler and provide more watts and amps to get full use out of your systems.

I have an internal surge protector I installed prior to the transfer switch (gives me protection from a possible runaway generator). I assume I can leave it there and pick up the wiring, from the transfer switch. BB suggested I use two inverter chargers because I want to be able to run both ACs at one time (I have a 50amp system)-just run one line to one and second to the other. Would this setup also do the same (I will have 6 BB batteries and one victron 3000). Thanks. Great video. I've watched three times and it get more understandable each time.

Great video and info as always. I use the Go Power IC2000, true power sharing is only on leg 1, it also has a built in transfer switch and 100 amp battery charger. Though our trailer is "50 amp" , the main part of the coach runs on 30A, which is connected to leg 1. I think the only true 50a appliance, is the battery charger of the IC2000. the second leg goes to its own dedicated circuit breaker, this runs the front bedroom AC. Anyhow thanks for the info.

As a novice, I really feel confident that I could tackle this on my 30 amp traier. However, could you give some advice for dummies on how to make the real world connection between the external power lines either solar or external source and the junction box in the RV. I don't know where these wires run and would not want to make a mistake. David

I have a dumb question. If I upgrade to one of these inverter/chargers, can I do away with the power converter that I am currently using as this unit supplies DC power or is the DC power here only used for charging the batteries? The wiring diagram seems to suggest that there is no need for a separate power converter with one of these.
@retiredandroaming
@retiredandroaming 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. No need for the OE converter as the built-in charger on the Multiplus is a far better, higher quality charger.

My fiance and I are in the final phases of purchasing our 1st RV, most likely a 2021/22 Northwood Mfg Arctic Fox 22G. I intend on boondocking several times during cold winter months for 5-6 day stretches - and, warmer weather boondocking with my significant other. Hoping a Zamp 230W portable array (along with 170W factory roof install) will aid in my endeavors. I also have a 3500W generator. My question is since I have yet to order the trailer - should I notify the mfg of my intentions BEFORE they begin the build OR should I wait till they deliver then proceed with my install. I am NOT a "sparky" (pursued ME) and I am not certain of what I need to know on factory wiring/components when it comes to installing something like you show. What should my main concerns be going into this? Great video - great execution! Thanks.
