I’m in over my head. I bought the battle born batteries and the Victron 3000 multipass. Can I make it work without all the other accessories on this diagram? The SPS is out of stock I have no idea how to replace that. Do hi just replace the inverterThat I currently have with the Victron? The inverter I currently have will not charge lithium ion batteries. Please help! No service center in my area will take a customer for over two months. I’m feeling like I should send all of the stuff back. And stick with deep cycle batteries and get through the season.

Perfect timing for me too. I installed a MP 3000/12 myself with 400ah BB batteries and 600w solar on a 30a trailer last spring. We loved the lifestyle so much I upgraded us to a 50a fiver this past fall. I bought the SPS over the winter and have been staring at it and pondering since. for the price of the switch you can almost buy another multi-plus and get true 3000 watts on each leg, instead of splitting the 3000 watts in half. Plus the victrons are set up to function as true split phase. Don't waist you money on a switch that expensive and a little dangerous if it malfunctions one time.

Just finished my install today, following your instructions (and updated wiring) to the letter. Can't tell you how excited I was to power it all up and see it work flawlessly!!! I've been a pool electrician for 40 years and I also wired houses. I can't tell you how many times people have asked me for a brief explanation of how the control system works. Their eyes almost immediately glazed over andaz intently as they try to listen I know they're lost. I had to stop years ago and figure out a way to explain the control systems to people who were not electricians. Busbar, shunt, contactor, relay and language I spoke every day about it just sent them into orbit. I saw the electricians comment about what a wonderful job you did of explaining it. What you didn't see is the thousands of people who shot the video off glazed over. As I watched I thought I can hear the remote clicking right now. The most critical aspect in teaching it's to make sure people understand every word, because once they don't understand a word all they do is try and figure out what it means and lose track. You will do far more good adjusting you're teaching to the absolute Layman. you literally need to break it down the kindergarten Electric. It's not just you, I watch several videos all week on RV solar, you certainly are not alone. if you're truly trying to teach people how to do what you've done you need to rethink your process. Although I have seen several people who are just trying to impress people with their intelligence. I don't know if you realize it but you had a six minute sales pitch for the products you were using before you ever got to one word about what you were actually doing. I don't know if it was intentional but I do know that many guys out there are pimpin for free product from manufacturers. if you really want to help people stop with the six minutes of sales pitch use that time to explain busbars, relays Etc in detail to a 9th grader. thanks for your time and effort I hate to see you waste it.

Thanks for the advice but I actually think I should have spent more time talking about the two main devices and their function which would come across as more of a sales pitch but is actually the majority of the questions in emails I’ve received. I had to explain the Hybrid Inverter and SPS features and functions to show how we were going to use them to power the entire RV like I mentioned in the first 20 sec of the video. I leave some of the details of the shunt and busbars to the other videos that I cover those so each video doesn’t become repetitive and over 40 min. You may not see it the same way but I hope that helps you see why I laid it out the way I did.

Thanks for your very informative videos. I have just finished a nearly identical 30 amp set up this week and it's awesome! I spent several months scouring KZbin for videos that I could really understand and your videos made me a little more relaxed when I was freaking out about the complexity of it all. The connection to the distribution panel was the most mysterious part of it for me so when I started running out of time and patience I ended up paying an installer $1300 to wire it up. But I couldn't be happier now. 800 watts of solar and 300 amp hours of battle born batteries with a 60 amp solar charge controller and 3000 watt multiplus has been perfect for me so far.

Can you share what was included in that $1300? Seems awfully high for just labor on a one day job so I'm wondering what parts and materials were included in that cost? Thx

Unfortunately $1300 was just 10 hours of labor at $130 an hour. The wires, fuse, etc were another $400ish. The labor included making custom battery cables, connection to inverter, connection to charge controller, connection to distribution panel (AC and 12v) as well as installation of shunt/battery monitor, disconnect switch, and fuse. I installed the solar panels (including wiring) and mounted the batteries, inverter, and charge controller. They had quoted me at 5 to 10 hours and it ended up taking them more than 10 hours but they only charged me for 10. It definitely is pricey and I struggled with which installer to go with. I got lower quotes and I got higher quotes but I wanted to be sure the person I went with really knew how to do it properly. Customer service and warranty was key for me considering the huge investment in components. I’m very happy with what I’ve got now! Good luck!

Been using the smart phase converter for a year. The 'quite' one. It went bad. AM solar was awesome. I had to run some directed tests. They agreed to replace it. They gave me the standard (loud) one. Then they told me they are bringing out a new quite one and when they do they will send it to me to swap back for the loaner. I have all Victron too. Good stuff. I did use some of your schematics and thank you for providing them for free.

@@richardkoch8752 I am definitely not qualified. Whenever there is a video on these types of installations the RVer uses someone with knowledge. These are not simple installations. Battleborn batteries are not cheap. Better plan on keeping the RV for along time to get the ROI on the install.

I just wanted to say thank you very much for your great video explaining the setup, parts list was greatly appreciated, and the diagrams where of great help, I had to redraw my setup to make sure I had all parts based on my configuration and location of the panel vs onboard surge protector and the location I installed the batteries and inverter/charger. I made final connections today, and tested the system. It all works great so far, will get to do a full test in the next 2 weeks we will be camping with 30 amp service but plan on unplugging and sudo boondocking to see how long 3 100 amp hr battleborn batteries will last up.

This, plus solar panels and controllers for them, is not hugely more than an Onan generator when buying new. It is more, but if you ever sell your RV, and most people eventually do, a used generator depreciates hugely because buyers normally doubt they have been maintained. Solar panels and lithium batteries require no maintenance and have lifespans of decades, so therefore have a higher resale value. Total cost to install, use for 2 to 5 years, and sell will be less for solar, plus the silence means you can run it all night in a campground that has a generator curfew. If you already have an RV with a generator, the economics are less attractive, until and unless your generator dies.

Thank you very much for this video. I ordered one of these inverters two days ago from a company that preprograms it for my battery set up. I was going to go with the multi +2 but believe it or not my 2000 Monaco dynasty doesn’t have enough room in that compartment considering all the other equipment in there with it. But this will do the trick and it’s a very big upgrade over my 1999 trace 2000 Square sine inverter. How would one know when they are drawing too much? When there is power available to everything, it is going to be hard get others to understand and cooperate with not turning on too many things. Having some sort of consumption level meter, with limit alarms, would seem to me to be helpful. Can you provide some insight on my confusion and concerns?

Thank you for all the help installing mine. We love it and it works well except, every time I shut down shore power I get a "Grid lost" alarm. It shows up in the Notifications. Don't know how to correct this. I have checked and rechecked all wiring. I've checked schematics, all good. I've also loaded the firm/soft ware via internet/computer and set the parameters. I have 3 100 AH Battle Born batteries. How can I get rid of the alarm? We love your videos. Keep making them.

Hello, I have a class A 2022 diesel that came with a very basic 100w solar system on a 2000watt inverter. I would like to upgrade into a 24v system using the setup you presented, but I have one small issue, the coach has an emergency jumper that allows me to use the house battery to jump the chassis battery in case of a emergency and I have not yet sort it out if I can still use that system with a 24v and be able to have that emergency jumper working through some sort of converter… But I love what you did. This is very insightful and helpful! I have a small Lance 1995 trailer, and I've been thinking of installing an inverter (I can't believe it didn't come with one installed). I've been kicking around the idea of building a bumper-mount box with batteries, inverter, etc., that I could essentially plug the camper into as needed (and take with me if I upgrade later). I think I could use this setup for something like that-though there's the issue of the inverter running the convertor. Thanks for being our sherpa on this mountain, sir. These are great.

Why does it appear in the diagrams the wires from the solar panels are going to the breaker box in the RV? The controller charger has inputs for the solar that is where they would go in isn’t it.

Super educational and clean video. Thank you. I'm planning to put in my RV two Victron Quattro's and two generators. Does that mean I will need two automatic Transfer switches ? As you probably know quattro has two inputs one for shore line and one for generator.

I've been following you for quite a while and I love the way you explain everything I was building this setup that you were talking about but when it comes to the smart phase selector it is no longer available they do not make it all they're going to do is make a few more but there is a waiting list anyways so there's no use of going on it I have to go with a manual transfer switch I'm adding solar panels to the roof where would I go into the system so when I'm boondocking I can get the solar panel power and if I need more it would come from the battery Bank what would I need to add to the system that you built in this video to do that

You video helped a bit. I have a 50amp rv that came with a factory inverter, but no instructions on how to use it. I have a side by side fridge that if I understand right, I might be able to power it using 15amps + batteries (4 deep cycle 6 volt solar charged)?

Great video, thanks for the diagrams. I already had all the parts and had started. Now I will change some of the control wiring from the auto transfer switch. The new transfer manual switch will add some safety. Which does happen from time to time at RV parks....I really like having the diagrams to post in bay for the day something doesn"t work...Thanks.

@6:00 Confusion starts because you SAY "This is our TRANSFER SWITCH" but your cursor is pointing to the SPS (SMART PHASE SELECTOR) not to the TRANSFER SWITCH above it. @6:50 you again talk about power first entering our TRANSFER SWITCH and again your cursor is pointing to the SPS not the TRANSFER SWITCH Is the SPS actually part of the Auto Transfer Switch? In the schematic they look like two different components but in the photo at the left I only see the grey aluminum looking box. Despite the confusion, I always really appreciate your videos because you take such great pains to explain it logically, step by step and I appreciate that a lot.

Thanks for watching, I think the missing piece to help you out is at 2:30 I explain the SPS as basically an automatic transfer switch for transferring how single phase and split phase is delivered. I have the 2 diagrams for down load on the 50 amp setup one with the SPS and one with the manual switch. The transfer switch on the diagram up by the shore pedestal and generator is just for switching between generator or shore power. Our mainline coming in where we start this installation is fed from that source. I hope that helps.

I have just about completed installing a Multiplus 12 3000 120 (not II) with a manual switch since the smart phase selector is no longer available. I'm using your "50A RV inverter Upgrade - Manual Switch" diagram and I'm confused about the switch connections. Your diagram shows the red hot line from the inverter being split and connecting to the panel and also to the switch (I'm assuming to the #4 terminal). Then the black hot line from what I'm assuming is terminal 1 on the switch to the second line in terminal on the panel. Final connection black hot from shore power to switch terminal #2. Can you confirm this is correct? I think what's throwing me is that I'm not sure what those three black knob-like things are in the box with the ground busbar. They look like other switches. Thought I should be safe and confirm before I wire the 120V incorrectly. Let me know, thanks.

I believe the Magnum MSH3012RV provides exactly the same function in a single box. I think this fact should have been mentioned as an alternative to achieve the same result.

I am wiring up my Multiplus. I want to use 6/3 for the AC out to my panel box for the 50 amp service. The gland is too small. Shouldn't I be using 6/3 to the AC panel for 50 amps?

What does the smart phase selector do that a standard transfer switch doesn't do? Assuming this will not function the same way just using a second transfer switch.
