Azolla

Azolla is a great free floating fern which grows very well in the right conditions and can be put to many uses. As cattle feed it increases milk production in cows, as chicken feed it increases weight of chicken and eggs, as a biofertilizer it provides nitrogen supplement to plants and it can also be eaten by human beings.

Hi, I only recently discovered azolla. It was growing in a friends pond. Quick question. Has anybody tried it in hanging baskets? As a sphagnum substitute? I live in Victoria BC Canada and they import the fibre for hanging baskets from thousands of kilometres away. (Which is stupid in my opinion). The azolla looks a bit like sphagnum when it is dry anyway. But I don't have enough in my tiny pond to test the idea. Thanks Brian White.

The carbon dioxide is re released into the atmosphere but when it comes to availability of nutrients its very great at recycling

if it cleans water, we should grow a shitload and trow it in our rivers and lakes, but this stuff is realy cool, does wonders, where about can we find this though??

In naturally occurring enviorments like lakes or ponds it has to be managed to make sure it cleans the water and adds benefit rather than cause damage if not managed properly but yea.

Another reason why I said 3ft deep I believe it's getting to hot n U poisoned it with the fertilizer well water should have plenty of minearls U should test to see if the fertilizer is broken down all the way n out of the pits try 1 pit with plenty of shade n keep the phosphorus continuous without over doing it!! Yea keeping it simple works better in my opinion last time I overfertilized and moved the plant around to much and it died, I restarted now and I'm hoping it can reach sexual reproduction so i can produce loads and loads of it.

What fertilizer do we need to use for Azolla? I couldn't find your other comment where you say you mentioned about how deep the tank should be etc.
