I fully understand what you meant when speaking about the small fishing village. I had that same “revelation” when visiting a lake town in Guatemala last month. It’ll the houses were so bright and colorful and people visit just to see that. But my husband and I walked around a bit and I found myself in tears just reflecting on how the people live. Like, yes, it’s a beautiful place, but they live in poverty. And even though they live in poverty, they were the kindest and happpiest people.
