Also, everything you shared seemed well researched, may I ask for your sources? The version 99% of learned seems very hokey and pure fantasy! Cortés didn't leave his less reliable men in Tenochtitlan. On the contrary. He left Pedro de Alvarado because, as much as a burt and hot-headed as he was, he was the most loyal to him, so he was sure he wouldn't betry him. The massacre is estimated in around 400 to 500 people in the central square of Templo Mayor, not on the thousands. And it was not a move against the nobility, but against the people in the square, whatever they were. It was hardly a planified attack, it looked more like a hot-headed decision. Which does fit Alvarado's character. He would rush things up messing up again a year later during the siege of Tenochtitlan. Texcoco was an acolhua city, not a mexica (Aztec) one, so most of the knowledge kept there did not belong to the Mexica. Aztec "universal education" was mostly based on teology and moral values and how to live according to theri religion, so the comparison is quite frankly stupid. Spanish inflection was nothing compare to what was going on in the rest of Europe, and the cause of the fall of the Spanish Empire was certainly not the dicovernment of silver. Forced conversion was forbidden. The cultures that disappeared under the Spanish rule would have also disappeared plus their people killed of under Mexica rule. So it is still a win. Good video, but as I said before, very simplistic, and therefore, not 100% reliable in certain conclusions.
@gigantorize3 жыл бұрын
Some very good points and I would also add that Pedro de Alvarado who was a 'fight-first ask questions later' kind of Conquistador had witnessed the Mexica ceremony that included numerous human sacrifices. Besides that it was not a one-day 'event' but went on for days. It is little wonder why Alvarado went spastic, IMHO. He thought the Spaniards were next on the Aztec sacrifice hit list.

Then you completely misunderstood the point. This isn't a comparison of who was worse but a factual summation of how people's lives changed for good and bad... If you want to attribute 'good' and 'bad' to it then go ahead... But I haven't done that in this video. People are smart enough to make up their own mind than me telling them what they should think.

This is not really being fair to the Aztecs that it was their fault. it probably was somewhat, but just think about what he said about the Spanish empire where they were raised to believe Christianity was the best but replace Spain with the Aztecs and Christianity with the sungod and violence.
@HistoryScope5 жыл бұрын
The Spanish, at most, fielded 1000 soldiers. The main fighting force against them were the 100.000 or so soldiers from the various tributary states. If they had not joined the Spanish cause, Spain wouldn't have won this war. Those tributary States only joined the Spanish because the Aztecs were so brutal.
