Bungie wiping their tears with the spare Benjamins: WhY doNT THeY UNdErSTaD
@Aurkus23 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know if I’d call it controversial, maybe a bit too presumptive and nothing more. We don’t actually know how many devs Bungie has or how much actually goes into creating a map, even if I to personally feel they should have more than enough resources. Cross is 100% correct, why can’t we at least get old already finished?
@13lurry Жыл бұрын
Because the higher ups have not found a way or refuse to anyway, to find a way to max monetize pvp cause they can’t just make some money. If they do something they have to make ALL the money….

I know people from the industry can pick apart that thread all they want. They can cite data or experience in regard to "proving" Kujay wrong....but I don't fucking care. At least somebody is holding Bungie to a higher standard, a standard Bungie doesn't want even want to hold themselves to and is willing to open that dialog of, "okay, how much does it cost big boy?". If Destiny is to die for Matter and Marathon, we deserve to know why. Either way, I'm not buying Final Sell. Cash-Fall burned me bad enough.
@JJroks543 Жыл бұрын
The amount of people with real industry experience (some of these people work for Bungie!) who came out and said this was a uniquely awful take should tell you something. They didn’t even disagree that Bungie was disappointing their fans, just saying Kujay doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Hell, Bungie’s salaries are public, so he didn’t he do the bare minimum of research!

While I agree it is ludicrous of Bungie to say they don’t have resources to make new maps, Kujay’s numbers went so far off message it’s difficult for me to support this(even though I like and agree with Kujay on his overall message) If he just focused his message on facts he knew and not imaginary/implied numbers he would be much more supported. For example it is ridiculous to think the entirety of $ from Sony would be spent on map building and thus the entire 1200+ years rhetoric took away from his message rather than supported it.
@Welverin Жыл бұрын
None of the money from Sony will be spent on the game, because Sony BOUGHT Bungie. They did not INVEST in Bungie. Sony gave the previous owners $3.6 billion to bugger off and let them take over control of Bungie and keep future profits for themselves. Think of it like buying a house. When you buy a house you give the previous owners a bunch of money and expect them to move out so you can move in and start living there yourself. You do not give them a bunch of money to make renovations and keep living there.
@gatzt3r Жыл бұрын
Same. I totally get the point he's trying to make but it's like he didn't even try to be logical. A company's value does not translate to liquid assets. Additionally, they are involved in other projects that are all running off one revenue stream.
@brendanpowell6043 Жыл бұрын
Eh, most people don’t understand scale and even fewer can go through a logical thought progression. My question would be how many resources, ie. time and money went into removing content that we used to have access to compared to the resources they currently allocate to looking after and producing new crucible/gambit content. It wouldn’t surprise me if more time and money went into removing content than goes into crucible and gambit, but we’ll never know. At the end of the day as a customer I just shouldn’t have to pay more for content that I already paid for. If they won’t give us new stuff, at least give us back what they took from us

Nobody seems to understand that the 3.6 billion wasn't given to bungie to spend, it was the cost of Sony buying all the shares to acquire bungie from shareholders. They don't just have 3.6 billion to spend on destiny now, it was Sony investing in destiny and hoping to get some expertise in making similar games in the future. I'm not defending bungie here, I feel like they're allocating their resources very poorly into temporary content that does nothing for the state of the game and just brings in more money. The seasonal model's gotta go or be seriously changed if we want the game to see any meaningful improvements. It'd be amazing if we could see more improvements to the base game, because at this point it should be more about keeping people on board with the game itself then it is churning out seasons to make money and generate temporary hype.
@nicholascazmay2126 Жыл бұрын
I think the problem we have at this point is that Bungie sees D2 as winding down its lifecycle and not being worth the necessary input to truly salvage it. I don’t think that means Destiny as an IP is done, but I think we can say goodbye to true innovation until a Destiny 3 equivalent happens, which is no time soon in the offing. I’m not saying I agree with that take since burning the playerbase of the only game making money seems idiotic to me, but there are a lot of good arguments for not wasting more resources on it for business and technical reasons. Doesn’t mean I’m gonna stick around to keep finding subpar content at premium prices though…
@Oldgamer127 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely correct. There are likely financial incentives for Bungie to hit for deferred payments. What is easy(er) way to improve profitability? Sell $20 cosmetics in Eververse instead of increasing payroll for new content makers.

the biggest issue with pvp maps is bungie's philosophy. I feel like it takes them so long to make even a single map because they spend way too long perfecting it as a generic 3lane esports map. Those take a long time with countless revisions Fun maps with a cool gimmick are easy to make. That one D1 vex map that was two areas separated by a massive gap in the middle with launch pads. No one cares that that map is a comp player's worst nightmare, it was FUN

The $3.6 billion did not go to Bungie. It went to shareholders and is not being reinvested in the company. The $10 Million a year is their burn money, and $3 million a year is 1/3 of that.

Funny how an aerospace engineer dictates disingenuous behaviors. While also omitting that bungie has contracts and deadlines to meet that have nothing to do with Destiny. Lol. Your friend is a textbook definition of a narcissist, Cross. Bungie spent millions to start the wheels turning on cheaters being held accountable along with the people who create the cheats. But hey, taking on such a thing would’ve ever halt resources….. All the PvP crybabies; keep crying lol

Kujay has made a youtube career out of being an armchair gamedev and the clapping seals of youtube sycophants has completely filled his head with hubris. I dont know anything about gamedev but I know one thing about games: for almost a decade we have seen companies try and ape the success of destiny and not a single one of them has even come close to it.

Yet another example of kujay being obnoxiously exaggeratory. Pvp is a minuscule percentage of the player engagement, why would they invest anything into it when the things people actually care about, the things that actually keep the game afloat, needed work?

What Kujay fails to understand is that Bungie's 3.6B is to buy the company, now Sony needs to turn that into a profit and having been double crossed by Acti/Bliz, they'll want a new IP, Marathon, for them, Sony, PS and maybe PC but perhaps to withhold it from Xbox and Microsoft (Windows OS not withstanding) That money isn't for Destiny. But remember Whisper skins funded Zero Hour, but there's no amount of money that the PVP community has given to Bungie in the form of skins, expansion purchases, emotes, ghosts and event cards that justify giving us maps. In Bungie's eyes, we're freeloaders, we don't buy jacks-t, which is rich because I silver bought every Ace, Thorn and Le Monarque skin in the game, along with many ornament sets. I'm not the biggest whale but I buy stuff and play mostly PVP.

I'm really not a fan of telling a professional or set of professionals how they can/should do their job. I'm also not a fan of a company telling their users what they can and can't expect. At the end of the day, we can expect the world, they can deliver a jar of dirt, we can choose to be happy about it or not. I'm not happy with Bungie at all, for their latest choices when it comes to managing the community expectations but we need to stop acting like we know what's happening in their books.
