Thai was very entertaining and informative , ty so much , learned a lot and also during this build i have managed to fill the gaps or stock in the paint section as you have given me lots to think about . I am working on a smaller version of this for a mini diorama about 1/4 the size so wont need a strong shelf lol . Take care and ty .

Grest work as always Lou, I wouldn’t have the skills / patience to force something like this together. Bandai is more my speed, its a shame they didn’t do a Sandcrawler in their Star Wars range. I get most of my satisfaction from painting and weathering so they are the ideal canvas for me. The main feeling I get when a kit goes together is relief 😄. Glad to see you approving the Flory washes. Phil’s a great guy and his products give wondeful results with minimum effort. It’s not called talent in a bottle for nothing 😄

Hi Lou. Again, all credit to you for wrestling this project into a superb final result. Your patience and dedication is to be respected. I agree that most Bandai kits are too easy (I have just completed one of their 1/144 AT-AT's and although the kit was easy enough it was the painting, cockpit lighting, weathering and diorama base that provided the challenges!) As you say, this kit is at the other end of the scale and I doubt that my skills, patience or wallet are up to tackling it, never mind the real estate needed to store/display it! I have a few Flory washes, although not the sand one. They are good products. I saw Phil Flory at Telford last year - after having missed you 😔

Reverse chipping is always a pain. Standard sponge chipping like the upper part of the sides involves removing almost all of the paint from the sponge, almost as if you were going to use it to dry-brush. But doing large expanses would mean painting them white, then chipping almost all of it with browns and that would not look right. As I was watching you begin I was thinking the same as you, that it was too bright and the edges didn’t look right but you finessed it to where it looks like you did something completely different. Yeah, it needs a sand mat or something to display it on. No wood plank, no random shelf surface. You going to show your display room rearranged to fit it in? How about a nice Dune ornithopter next? Too early?

We have a local fuel oil supplier around where I live by the name of Botini-- can't see those trucks without thinking and hearing "Jawa speech." Fabulous build, Lou-- start to finish. I need to know what the original intent of that white streaking was. Guano? Wind storm effect? Hard to say. The organge is bad enough-- that might be the original paint job... Or as you so cogently put it, "space paint on space metal." Yep. Those little bits of lighting really tell me it's real! Love 'em. Water on a desert world? Well, Desert Survival 101 shows us how to make a morning still-- with a sheet of plastic, dig a hole, weight down the plastic in the corners and a weight in the middle-- dipping down to your cup. Boom! Morning time gives you a cuppa. So Luke's vaporator farm must do something like that. Randy's kit is a wonder-- no less than the original prop. Which you have done right by. Would love to see where it winds up in Dalmaso Acres!

there's got to be moisture, that's why they have all of those vaporators on the moisture farm. (very similar to binary load lifters, in most respects)

I will probably get in trouble again for stating how the crawler is powered , considering its fan fiction . Fan fiction is what has fueled the franchise , George left Boba Fett to die in the sarlacc pit but it was the fans and fan fiction that brought him out . With that out of the way the crawler is powered by nuclear fusion steam reactors so ya lots of opportunity for rust , or was it just a Sandcrawler that was designed by Colin Cantwell and revised by prolific conceptual designers Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston.

Been watching for many years now, you hooked me into doing a kit of the sandcrawler ... but man thats expensive ... however have tracked down a 3D Print version that i'm going to try. As for the Dune movie release ... need another Dune kit to commemorate the final installment ... please be a Dune kit .... great work as always.

I once had a big RC Tiger 1 tank. How I displayed it when I wasn't playing with it was I put it on my Coffee table in the middle of my living room with the turret and barrel rotated to the 11 a clock like it was aiming at something. Maybe you could display it that way or in the corner of a room on a end table. Just an idea
