Keep sniffing glue over the new intro Lou... best of both worlds. BTW that model looks amazing!!!

New intro looks great - quality work, but I agree about having the Lloyd Bridges line. I mean, that's just your sense of humor and a good part of why I enjoy watching so much. Fantastic work on the photoetch - made my hands sweaty watching you work with all of that tedious stuff.

Can we have both intros?! The Lloyd Bridges quote is great, and I’m really loving the graphics of Andre’s intro. And building the photoetch array “Oh boy. Oh boy.” I felt your pain! Loving the build :)

It's looking good Lou. The sheer size of this thing makes this an impressive build. I like the brass bits you added here and there. It really added some great looking detail. Great job on that small and fiddly photo etch!!! Wow, that looked to be an eye strainer for sure. I thought PE for a 1/35 scale Hummer was tough but that antennae group takes the cake!!! I'm glad you didn't let any go flying off onto the floor or something. Been there done that.

You've got some brass, buddy. I know you're right on top of it-- but I think it needs to be a little whiter. Just a little. Love the idea of tilting it to allow it to fit on a narrow shelf. Not sure it'll work, but it sounds great. You'll also see more of the model! I see dogged determination, Lou! Nothing wrong with the intro thing-- just drop Lloyd right at the end. Change is okay.

Looking good, Lou! Hopefully your eyes will uncross over the weekend. I don't think the molded piping was present in the initial casting run back in the day. Some of the piping along with additional surface details were incorporated into the later castings. I like the deck tan dome bases as-is! They look really close to the creamy color I plan on painting mine. Maybe your dome bases are more tan in real life than they appear on my TV and computer. Some of the references I have show them a creamy tan, others show them white, but that could be due to the lighting in the ref photos and the age of the model. I also like that there will be a slight variation in color between the center cargo section and the dome bases. I don't think the American Airlines freighter was originally constructed to carry domes. Domes are not an optimal shape for efficiently stacking cargo. The booms up front could probably accommodate a variable number of interchangeable cargo pods, a la the Botany Bay, or cargo pods of various geometries based on contents. These specialized "containers" might be contracted out to a different manufacturer than the center cargo & bridge section, hence a variation in color. Or I could just be thinking too much... Stay safe!

Well Lou, again, I never hit “jump ahead” thru the entire vid. I definitely could have watched more of you putting this model together. I can’t think of anything else you could have done extra regarding painting it. It will look good once you fit the front and rear sections. The red bracing will stand out great. The idea of slanting the display should work too. Depending on high up off the floor you are thinking of placing it, the slant will definitely give a better view of the top surface and all the other model’s features. Regarding the lower surface portion of the ship (in space which is actually top or bottom - LOL). One never saw that part of the model so placing that panel there is perfectly ok. Technically, you could have gone hog wild with appropriate sized greebles and piping and no one would have been the wiser. It would have truly been an “Aztek Dummy Original”! Imagine if they had thought to do a “Star Destroyer” entrance with this model? It would have been impressive with one passing overhead with the other 4 (or 5) ships coming into the screen. It could have come after that initial pull out shot of Lowell and the introduction of Valley Forge and the other ships. Especially with Saturn as the backdrop. And speaking of Star Destroyers. Was there any details like those found on the STs, in the gaps along the sides of the ship - where you were shaping/sanding with the file? Sorry, I really like this Valley Forge model but I can’t afford the price, so I have to apologize again for going all “fan boy” over this build but I’m living my dream through watching you build it!

Hey Lou, I meant to write this comment last week. The secret to priming/painting metallic objects (including photoetch, bass tubes etc.) is to use etching primer. You can get it at the hardware store. Apparently it combines an acid with the paint to etch into the metal at the microscopic level. I've used it on all sorts of builds with no adverse reactions with other paints etc. It leaves a really nice surface for you to paint onto and the paint doesn't chip or rub off as easily (the paint job is really durable). And it helps when you bend a painted PE part for the paint to remain on the bend.

The photoetch work looks amazing. I think it could have been partly 3d printed to save on all that extra fine gluing work. Looking good Lou. Keep up the great work.

Really enjoying this build Lou .Something new with out of this world detail . I dont want to be the bearer of bad news based on your excitement when first talking about how you plan on getting this kit but based on your excitement or the lack there of based on the antenna build . Will you indeed walk back into that fire , our eyes and patience dwindles as time passes .

First, the new intro is very cool, but put it in front of the old one. Please, keep Lloyd Bridges. Second, back when I was severely nearsighted that antenna array would have been a piece of cake. Cataracts made me get distance vision so I could finally stop wearing glasses and I wouldn't go back if I could but that model gives me pause. The dome bases are beautiful, the shadowing getting deeper toward the central shaft is perfect and if it matters I agree the satin final coat was the right thing to do. Even if those pieces were intended to be flat finish, at that scale they'd look just like that. Same for the main hull. And yes, the built-in shadowing gives it a life that monochrome white never would. I can't wait to see how you manage the dome interiors. At that thing's ridiculously tiny scale you could never to say grass to scale, you can't get flocking that tiny. Maybe very heavy-textured flat paint? How will you do sand in the desert dome, scrape up dust from tabletops and stuff? Individual grains will be invisibly small! Heck, even full-sized Sequoias will be maybe two inches tall! Ooh. Had you even considered lighting the domes? Finally, if I was your customer I might want the base angle to be adjustable to fit my mood despite me thinking the angle idea is damn good. Keep on space truckin' Lou, we'll be waiting for the next installment.

Hi Lou have you considered cutting the brass Valley Forge out from the photo etch sheet, I did it on my Voyager kit and it looks lovely against the matte black base. Really enjoyable build and one of my favourite movies especially Huey louie and duey. Wonder if a dark star kit is out there somewhere Shame it's not going to have lighting with all that intricate pipe detail. Looking forward to the gardeners corner.

Those arrays are tiny. Nice detail work there and on the main hull of the Valley Forge. I usually prefer a satin coat as well to bring out definition and detail. I also feel it helps with scale more than a completely flat coat. Looking forward to week 3 on the dome and adding foliage etc.

First. What a testing time doing all that photo-etch , but you did a magnificent job, the ship is comming together nicely. Secondly, What if you made a "U" shaped stand and used the existing tube hole as a means to atattch that part of the craft , you could run 1 tube right through the ship and the "U" shaped stand upright's and on one of the upright's add another tube to act as a locking mechanism so the model piece doesn't move while you paint it then you could unlock it , spin the pice 180 degrees relock it then paint the other side , this way you wouldn't risk any damage or fingerprints. Third, The new opening looks good but it does need the monaloge added to make it yours.

@fortworthron4 жыл бұрын
@@aztekdummy I have good news for you! If the droids are approximately 3 feet tall in real (fictional) life, and the scale is 1/650, that means Huey, Dewey, and Louie would be approximately .055" tall, ballpark. Those should be representable! :-) They are an important part of the movie, you know, doing surgery, going outside doing work on the external of the ship, etc. So you could model one inside a dome, perhaps another one working outside on the ship, etc. Then you can have the eventual owner go find them! :-D

A really nice build and good videos. I like your painting technique and I am a great fan of pre-shading and use it in preference to washes and dry brushing on larger areas. I also hate photo etch and avoid it if possible, it drives me nuts too. Check out "Laser Creations" videos as he makes really good dioramas using a lot of foliage although the areas you have are quite small so I think a challenge to make the domes "pop". I look fwd to your next video.
