Since KZbin demonetises us and iTunes won't even let us be on their platform due to "Shit" being in the title of our show, this will be the last episode posted under the name "Shit Island". Henceforth we'll be using the name "Sickle and Hammertime" (as voted on in a poll in this channel's community tab). And also because Spotify doesn't let you change the title of your podcast, the "new" podcast can be found at this link: open.spotify.com/show/41s10Sy7RD9lOpPrDFUAq2

California teacher here, totally wonder if your time in the education field your class instructors ever compare Denmark to other international schools. For example we researched how top educational nations like Poland and Korea function.

in spain we do 20/week lessons... And the common student ratio is 30/class. And we are considered priviledged and we can not complain without someone rising an eyebrow like "how dare a teacher complain?"

I think that the money for schools should be centralised so that municipalities get either equal amounts per capita or what they need (currently struggling municipalities might need more to provide the same level of education). Not sure if the running of the schools themselves should be centralised though, as this does mean that the schooling is far more affected by nationwide politics. Certainly, in the UK, the changes made by Michael Gove to the curriculum 5 years ago were almost universally hated and a greater degree of regional autonomy would have protected at least some students from these changes. On the other hand, it could protect schools in Tory areas from engaging with positive changes too, so it's hard to say which is better. Just worry about kids getting whiplash from their education being changed back and forth by successive governments.

I kinda expected to be convinced that teachers really do deserve the equivalent of $60k per year. I didn't expect to be convinced that region-wide school boards are better than local boards... but the regional school (and health, water, and electricity) board members should be elected directly, lest racist demagogues choose them.

@@_armoricat_ Sorry should have been more clear anyone leaning left or right should not be a teacher. But if they must be then they may not speak about their political beliefs since schools must be a full neutral zone where kids and young adults may learn their own opinions. Fact and truth must always win over biased political beliefs.

@@_armoricat_ I dont care what hookus pookus you may believe in schools are a place where kids should learn from multiple sources and form their own opinion and not have a teacher practically brainwash the children. Such was the case with my school when i was younger and my teachers favorite little red book of death.
