Thank you so much, I do have a question. I’m a fairly young person who’s somewhat into socialism and more left leaning politics, but I still feel as if I can’t explore this very far because my parents are landlords. I know has implemented some bias into me, as much as I believe landlords are incredibly corrupt and should not exist. What can I do? Idk I just have this feeling I cannot be a real leftist with my beliefs that contradict what my family does even though deep down I know that’s utter rubbish.

I honestly think it can be good to get involved in that stuff as a lot of it can lead to you making friends with similar views and it helps validate your beliefs. A lot of the political compass ball humor is kinda funny and people like JReg are too. Its not actually practical though, and i feel like it makes an echo chamber

Politics isn't about identity. When you're convinced you have to defend x because you're supposed to as a member of y, you're setting yourself up to be tokenized, manipulated and gaslighted. The Democratic Party is specialist in this: "we're the party of (insert minority group)! Support us because that's what you're supposed to do as a member of (insert minority group)!"

Right wingers calling everything they don't like, socialism, is equivalent to left wingers calling everything they don't like, fascism. And then some lolbertarian saying those are the same thing...

It took me a while to realize while I'm a leftist, I don't see myself as a communist in the traditional sense, not Marxist or any of it. I have my own opinions that differ sometimes greatly with other people sharing similar ideologies.

I am in my late teens now and have had quite a rough political journey. When I was like 12-13 I got into the alt right pipeline through meme channels and 4chan stuff. Then I thankfully got off that path thanks to my parents teaching me tolerance, I became a social democrat and was in favour of social markets because it was „unproblematic“. Then friends introduced me to Marx Lenin and Luxemburg. I started being more in favour of anticapitalism and i have started protesting and joined a local leftist youth group recently. I always tell myself to read more theory but following on that is kinda difficult sometimes. Any recommendations for socialist works of literature are welcome

I spent years in this kind of communities comparing labels and showing how much purer I was in my political views. Joining the French Communist Party on the one hand, studying the links between class struggle and factionalism in the British Labour Party during my studies on the other hand, helped me a lot to finally finding the right approach in promoting progressive politics. I'm a socialist and a communist, and that's all that matter in my relations to other leftists. Praxis and study are the only keys to understand and to change the world.

this is the most pure democracy I have ever heard about in my life. as an American I was beginning to question if democracy was actually really bad, but seeing this has given me hope that with a proper education system, and removal of propaganda, people really are capable of governing themselves.

I used to be a die hard anti-Marxist anarchist without adjectives but after hanging around marxists online and reading das kapital I realize that I enjoy aspects of both Marxism and anarchism! Open-minded thought is a blessing and everyone ought to use it!

My advice is to just read Marx and Engels. Stop getting your theory from Reddit or KZbin. Also, don't be weird about it. Live a normal life. If or when revolution comes, you will be ready, but in non-revolutionary times, its best to just live in a way that minimizes your own stress.

Bernie Sanders didn’t lose the nomination in 2016, they did the same thing that they did this year. Bernie isn’t a corporate shill paid for by big Pharma and Oil like Killary.
