A Scottish tune composed as a lament for the hero of the Trojan War, but effective as a mournful waltz, also. Played by Tim & Margie Rued. Printable music at www.folksweden.com. Click on "Irish/Scottish Fiddling"

Hey you two, it's me again. Every time you present a tune that "grabs" me, I do a general sheet music search to see if there are other versions. I thought that this was a waltz but the version on your site has it in 6/8, and then strangely enough, more than 50% of the versions available on the www are in 3/4. So, I'm going to write it up as a waltz (OF COURSE 😊). I offer my sincerest thanks to you for opening up so much new music for me. 🎵🪗🎶

The tune was composed by the great Scottish fiddler, J. Scott Skinner, as a lament. He wrote it in 6/8 time, to be played slowly and mournfully. I prefer it as an even-tempo tune, more like a waltz. I write it in 6/8 time because I think it is easier to read that way. It is very often played as a waltz nowadays, and 3/4 time is perfectly ok to use. Personally, I don't like to write all the LONG notes that are necessary for putting it in 3/4 time. Glad you enjoy our playing!
