Actually there was an earlier aircraft to fly 25 missions successfully. It was a B-24, it was rethrning to America to celebrate the completion. It crashed on the way home, entire crew died. The Memphis Belle was selected to replace the crashed bomber.

During the original filming of the Memphis Belle, several film crews visited a number of bomb groups. This was done to capture enough footage, but also because a few ships were coming up on 25 missions. You can see the various bomb groups represented throughout the film, with the Memphis Belle completing 25…

Nice kit! My only comment is the fixed flaps which could have been made separate or movable.
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes that is a good point. Something that you could probably modify but would have been nice to have them like that.

One minor point, the Pilot of Memphis Belle volunteered after the War Bonds tour, to return to duty and in 1944-45 he flew B-29s over Japan.

Don’t know why they go into so much detail of the interior when you never get to see it after the model put together
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne3 жыл бұрын
Some people love building the fine detail as part of the build challenge. You can always choose to leave out the finer detail parts if you prefer. If you build a cut-away the fine details are nice to see.

To bad HK did not offer the 3 different nose pieces like they did in the 1/32 version.
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne3 жыл бұрын
Most builders won't need the extra bits. Spares are always nice but not a deal breaker.
@inclusivemodeldesigns163 жыл бұрын
@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne I have this kit, and will juice it up. I just like options and with this being modular it had a lot of potential. HK could if they wanted to, make sets on the side? Like their B-17G kit. Offer a Cheyanne Tail? Just to clarify when I was talking about the nose on the 'F' kit I was speaking not of the glass but the the 2 large side bits. To create "E" models etc.
@brettpeacock91162 жыл бұрын
I think they "Might" be considering releasing the E Model as a separate kit boxing. The differences are fairly minor as the E featured engines only slightly less powered than the F, plus the changes to the nose for better visibility and more guns. (The E had only .30 cals in the nose, the F .50 cals.)

"Tamiya is heavy on detail.." ??! lol 🤦♀
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne Жыл бұрын
Did I say that? I say "heavy on the surface detail" referring to the broad and deep panel lines found on many Tamiya kits.

@@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne You are welcome! The movie Memphis Bell that came out in 1990 is not accurate at all. The crew came with out any problems. There is a documentary called The Memphis Bell. A story of a flying Fortress. A must see and accurate.

I always find Tamiya models too much toy like. Well overrated company.
@HearnsHobbiesMelbourne2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I disagree. Tamiya have been superior in fit and detail compared to many brands such as Airfix. Hong Kong Model has better scale detail than Tamiya but I think Tamiya is still better engineered for fit and more enjoyable to build.
