My mother loved B.B. KING. I mean loved him. This was the very first B.B. Song I heard as a little kid. Miss them both!

GOD BLESS YOU B.B.!!!

Loved him with Sonny Freeman & The Unusuals! I got to sit down on set breaks on a first date with my soon to be girlfriend, w/ Ron Levy, & listen to him telling really funny road stories w/B.B.! I had not realized that he had also been in Albert King's road band for some extended period. Albert had lived across the river from St. Louis, in Lovejoy, Il. for decades, so there were countless stories of Albert's life on the road too....

So great. Similar to when i saw him ooen for the Stones at MSG in 1969. Those who are interested- major influence on BB - Lester young. Listen to Tickle Toe. Phrasing and space. Both story tellers. Both Tone masters.

R.I.P. BB King. Hey Blues fans, Did you know that boxing legend Joe Frazier had a Rhythm & Blues band called the Knockouts. Charlie Brown played the drums & did vocals with Joe. He has a new release on youtube called the Trash Man Blues.

While this video is B&W, its apparent that B.B. is playing a Red Lucille for this performance. I've often wondered why he chose this guitar: Looks, tone, or both?
@daveowens6 жыл бұрын
I just read his autobiography and he said part of the reason he loved that bodystyle was because it reminded him of a woman. Also, there are stories from musicians of that era saying the record labels only wanted them playing Gibsons because they looked classier. Being a snazzy dresser, I'm sure the Gibson ES fit his look, too!

You don’t announce a guest artist like BB King and then treat him with the kind of disrespect I saw in this video. Don’t know who the orchestra was. Don’t want to know, either. That was a lousy tempo for that song. And worse, someone must have moved his guitar and twisted the strap. Mr. King would have set it on the stand with the strap ready to go with no fumbling around needed. Why the drummer and brass section needed to drown him out is beyond me. In the decades since this recording, he has recorded several versions of this song and done a superb job of it. He was great and the devotion of his fans and colleagues is well deserved.

That was his road band. Sonny Freeman, the propellor, Wilbert Freeman on bass. U believe this clip is from a tv variety show circa 69-70, when Sid had him booked for maximum exposure, so he barely had a chance to shot for himself, hence, the bedazzled nature of his countenance. The amps are rented per contract which kinda means the amp's setting were kept set whenever the last geet player had set them and indicates there wasn't a time and/or an opportunity for a soundcheck. And, yes, sound mix levels suck.

I think this is the best version! Fast tempo, awesome horn section, boomy walking bass, cool organ, driving drums, great solo, great vocals, what more could you ask? It's a very jazzy version that I dig!
