No one should be shocked how Ridge and Stephanie had this conversation. They had a deeply rooted Oedipus complex relationship as mother and son. Bill Bell was the master in daytime and pulling out these moments in his soaps. Hardy Lemay executed the same thing between Iris and Mac with the electra complex. That's what we old school fans of the genre enjoyed seeing

I have always said there was something very sick about Stephanie Douglas relationship with her son. Stephanie acted like she would of put the condom on Ridge if given the opportunity. But Brad Bell throws it all away when he didn't write Stephanie death with Ridge.

Yes maybe after those two realistic slaps Ronn built into his contract he would not be slapped. Has it EVER been acceptable for a man to slap a woman during an argument on a soap? Not in an abusive tone but in a reactionary tone as many of the woman slap other people?

Me too. I really was itching to slap Ridge myself. What a judgmental so and so after some of the escapades he has got up to. If one of my sons spoke to me like that I dont think I could control my anger and I'm not a violent person. I'm watching this in 2020 catching up on these tremendous episodes. What a great show back then. Susan Flannery is simply one of the best actresses ever.

Then after all this..thirteen years later in 2001 the writers of the show decided to rewrite history and bring Massimo Marone on the scene to be Ridge's REAL father.

Eric wasn’t stupid he could have still walk away from Stephanie but he wanted the Douglas money. Ridge was so stupid Eric wasn’t a money man he had talent but No! Income. Both Eric & Beth would have been struggling to support their family. No! Eric talked a good game but in the end he would have chose to be with Stephanie & the money.
@Hanan28063 жыл бұрын
That's what I said too, it's easy for Ridge to blame his mother, but Eric, if Beth was truly the love of his life, he could have been with her if he really wanted to. Eric dated Beth and then when he saw that Stephanie's dad had money, he wanted her. It seems to me that Eric was friends with Stephanie long before he was with Beth. When Eric got what he wanted from Papi Douglas, Beth was only a distant memory and was never the love in his life. as I understand it, Eric never really liked Beth. it was only a short love affair

Back in the day no decent man would get a girl pregnant and walk away. But the joke was on Eric. He wasn't even the daddy. He did all those years with Stephanie Douglas for a crime that Massimo committed. And Ridge still ended up being a bastard as Stephanie called the unborn Eric Forrester Jr.

Damn she could act her butt off. Ron Moss had his moments as well. I remember Ridge once getting into an argument with some guy who had a reputation of being very violent and he threatened Ridge. Ridge paused just stared him down and said "get the hell out of here." It was so believable yet so comical. Ha! I wish I could watch that episode again.
@julieet523 жыл бұрын
He so deserved that slap. so disrespectful talking to his mother like that. She was only a young 17 year old when she got pregnant and please if anyone is going to say she tricked Eric when pregnant to another man, please go back and watch the episodes where that was found out because they are heart wrenching. She wasnt some evil girl she truly believed Eric was Ridges father. Get sick of people saying Stephanie tricked Eric. Seriously watch the episode. I would have slapped Ridge all the way into next week and I am not a violent person.
@TitanicTubi3 жыл бұрын
Stephanie did trick Eric, didn't ever occur to her that the Ridge could be Mossimo's kid?
@julieet523 жыл бұрын
@@TitanicTubi You need to watch those episodes where she learned that Eric wasnt Ridges father. It was a shock to her, she had no idea. It was said she had slept once with Massimo and she had a period after that which can happen sometimes. She got back together with Eric and of course she believed he was Ridges father. Really watch the episodes you will see what anguish this caused for Stephanie. She was a young girl when she got pregnant only 17, there was no manipulation on her part. This was never part of her original backstory which Bill Bell created, stupid storyline. If you doubt what I say please find the episodes and watch them.

A few things: 1 This was 1988. Ridge was Erics son here, they did not even think about creating that stupid Massimo line until 2001 which is 13 years later. 2 Eric was dating Beth, not Stephanie was dating Beth. He was unfaitfull. They never confirmed Stephanie even knew about Beth at that moment. 3 Never understood why for example Brooke blames Stephanie. If Eric would have ended up with Beth 30 years ago Brooke would not even exist, neither would Ridge. 4 Almost every other woman on the show went to greater lengths in manipulation to have and to keep a man than Stephanie was suspected of here.

It has its purposes. It was a way to refresh this age-old Stephanie/Logan family karma storyline which has always been the central theme of the show: Brooke “stealing” everything sacred from Stephanie as a twisted karma for Stephanie essentially doing that to Brooke’s mother and living the life that Beth coulda shoulda woulda lived. By reintroducing the story with Massimo, it made it even more twisted, but also, yes, allowed for them to explore would-be-incest romantic relationships (such as the deplorable Ridge + Bridget) that otherwise would’ve been total blood incest. By making Ridge a Marone, it cut some characters from being blood-related to each other. Another being Rick and his romances with Ridge’s daughters. They also needed to find a way to make it so Brooke’s sons Ridge Junior and Eric Junior weren’t biologically brothers AND uncle/nephew at the same time (one fathered by gramps Eric and one father by daddy Ridge, because that would be very confusing and super weird for new viewers). As a 30-minute soap with a smaller cast, the writers knew that those relationships would be controversial and steamy, but needed to find away to allow it eventually happen without them all being full-on blood incest.

Ridge has always been a little ingrate! The nerve to question your Mother in such a way and to insinuate that she trapped Eric of all Men...Hahaha...Eric was of no means and of no status. He only represented what was the total opposite of what her father was and that made him dashing...his talent and dreams made him appealing. Stephanie was a naive bright eyed freshman girl who had come with a key to open up all the closed doors that once faced Eric. And once he found out that she was smitten by him he abandoned his feeling for Elizabeth and jumped at the chance to "do the right thing " and marry his pregnant girlfriend.....who unbeknownst to herself had in fact gotten pregnant by her sweet, kind and passionate friend Massimo...when Eric had broken her heart by breaking up with her suddenly. Stephanie knew nothing of Eric true intentions which was to ditch her for Elizabeth and run away together but reality set in and Eric made up with Stephanie and never told a soul that she sought comfort from Massimo until 30+ years later whrn the truth of Ridge's Paternity was found out all because he had to find the Paternity out for Bridget.

Totally, sis, Eric got what he wanted from Stephanie and the Douglas. if Beth was truly the love of his life, he would have given up on the Douglas money and found another way to set up his business. but no, sir wanted the money and the girlfriend. It just shows that Eric and Stephanie met long before Beth and Brooke's mom wasn't the woman Eric really loved.

No, Stephanie didn't trapped Eric by sex, she trapped him with a baby that wasn't his...
@RhaegarTargaryen1st10 жыл бұрын
Boo! Back in those days people still believed that you needed to have sex on a regular basis before a pregnancy could occur. No one thought that a one night stand could produce a pregnancy. Stephanie did not trap Eric. Eric's so-called love for Beth Logan was nothing more than revisionist history on Eric's part during his mid-life crisis. Stephanie was rich, beautiful and could give him a hell of a better future than Beth ever could have. Yes, he cared for Beth, but Eric WANTED to be Ridge's father. Look at what being Ridge's father got him: a half million dollar loan (in today's money) from the Douglass family, the financial and business connections that helped him launch Forrester Creations, Stephanie's brilliant business mind and more. If Eric married Beth he would NOT have made it as big as he has.

+Rhaegar Targaryen I liked Stephanie but true classy lady and best mother this show was Beth Logan Henderson. She was intelligence, sweet,loving ,warm and goodhearted. She always acted like lady and Beth was working class heroine how raised 4 child practical alone. She was also beautiful. Stephanie may had money ,connections and power but Beth had something bigger , that was good honest genuine heart. Beth was inhuman and sweet everyone. I guess Stephanie hated Beth because she envy Beth kindness. She also hated Beth because Eric loved Beth and later Beth dothers too :D I dont usually like too nice characters but old Katie and Beth captured my heart. Beth never needed plotted against nobody or lie still she was good and protective mom .
@RhaegarTargaryen1st8 жыл бұрын
nina sihvonne My comment was not to impugn Beth's character but merely to challenge the original posters suggestion that Stephanie trapped Eric. As far as Beth being a better person than Stephanie we'll just have to agree to disagree. Stephanie is a strong and powerful woman from the moneyed class and was raised to deal with her enemies in a brutal way. Stephanie has, on many occasions, demonstrated her great ability for compassion and kindness; however she's no fool. Crocodile tears (Brooke) have no affect on her. Stephanie was never jealous of Beth she just took offense to another woman trespassing on her turf (as anyone would). As far as Eric loving Beth, I think you showed that to be false when you typed "Eric loved Beth and later Beth's daughters, too." What kind of man does that to a woman he supposedly had such a great love for?
@HunterWrangler7 жыл бұрын
Beth was always a complex character. She was usually likable and seemed to have a good moral compass. I recall she admonished Brooke for hiding the letter from Ridge to Caroline in '87. The only time I didn't care for the character is when Marla Adams portrayed her. Love the actress but she was too bitter and brazen. This is the same Beth that freaked out after an argument with Stephanie and flew back to Paris the same night. Someone that fragile couldn't morph into the bitter woman as Marla played it.

She not only Trapped Eric with Ridge but she was able to win him over. Remember Stephanie's Father gave them a Gift of $50.000.00 to start The Business and for Eric, it was the offer of a lifetime. Also, Beth meant well but she had no ambition whatsoever, she didn't exactly get a Prize Piece with Stephen Logan.

Since when did Stephanie sleep her way through Eric's family? Or bed her daughter's beaus/husbands? Much less have children by them? She may have been a bit of a playgirl as a young woman, but Stephanie at least had taste and discretion, unlike Brooke. So its acceptable for the Valley Girl turned "damsel-in-distress" to love Ridge/Eric, but its a crime to consider the idea that Stephanie loved both Eric and Massimo Marone? Clearly in Stephanie's case she learned from her mistakes because in the 25 years that Susan Flannery portrayed her, I don't recall Stephanie Forrester's promiscuity? Yes at the inception of B&B, the original Mrs. Forrester was the classic Ice Queen, but Brooke Logan resembled Eve Harrington from "All About Eve"-sweetness and light publicly, but privately nothing more than a meretricious siren.

Also, keep in mind that Stephanie was very territorial with Eric. Remember the "Shade" she gave Margo about her "Infatuation" with Eric. Sadly enough while Eric tried to find love other women (Brooke, Sheila, Donna & Now Quinn), Stephanie never could.
@Donderdrammels4 жыл бұрын
Because she is not lesbian, while Susan Flannery is. But to be serious, to me you don't understand the character of Stephanie, she in fact had many oppurtunities to find love elswhere: Bill Spencer sr., Adam, Jack Hamilton, Massimo, though she was commited to Eric, she devoted herself to him and kept that promise. Some may call that stupid or whatsover, but in the end Eric felt the same: none of those other women gave him what Stephanie gave him. In the end they cared more about themselves than about him. Stephanie let him shine in business when they built Forrester. So to summarize this: she could have found love, but did not want to find love. At the moments Eric was not with her she ussually went on with her life instead of whining.
