B.C. residents entitled to cash back for buying an electric bike in B.C.

B.C. residents can now apply to get some money back when buying an electric bike. The government is offering income-based rebates of up to $1,400 for e-bikes purchased in B.C. As Yasmine Ghania reports, the program is already proving quite popular.

Then you would just buy it from a shop that doesn't raise the prices that much. These programs exist all of the world and that has not been a problem at all. Here in Texas we have had a program for ~7 years and our prices are the same as anywhere else.

Rebate ran out of cash the day it launched… You can put your name on a waiting list but good luck getting it now. Seems all this did was drive up the cost and aggravate those who didn’t want to pay for a program like this or couldn’t take advantage of it.

I was going to buy a bike locally but the sale prices for the expensive bikes are better in Alberta, so much that it doesn’t make sense to buy a lesser bike, and hope you get the rebate too make up for the extra cost here in BC. I got a A30 altitude power play almost $2000 off sticker price end of the year sale. Either get a specialized or a Rocky Mountain. RM has more control, power, and efficiency, the specialized will give you more ease of use with a little less effort but is more expensive to fix or replace parts.

I think these e-bikes are a great addition to the environment and city living. However, I wish they'd also give rebates on regular bicycles - not just e-bikes.

That really pisses me off! I am in Alberta, No rebate here. I had to convert my own, costing me a lot more than buying a premade e bike. On top, with my disability my balance is not good enough to ride a 2 wheel bike anymore. About 400 bucks for original 21 speed mountain bike + 400 dollars for direct drive hub motor+ 600.00 for battery + 600.00 for reverse trike kit so I can balance myself.+ accessories to make legal to ride in Calgary + backrest due to injury+ misc accessories That makes me sick! I am disabled, Trying to save a buck to get around, and perfectly able people can get cash back in BC, Makes me angry!!!
