The Beacon's Call
The Beacon had waited for centuries. Snow fell in slow, silent spirals around its smooth, obsidian shell, the golden seam of its eye pulsing faintly against the icy gloom. It had not been built, nor had it crashed-no, the Beacon had arrived, settling into the earth as naturally as a seed drifting into soil. It had chosen this place, where the trees whispered in a tongue older than man and the night hummed with something unseen.
It was awake now.
Soft light leaked through the slit in its shell, threading through the falling snow, stretching out like unseen fingers. It was searching. It had been designed-not by hands, but by something greater-to find those who had lost their way. The tired, the wandering, the broken-hearted. And when the time was right, when the right soul stumbled through the frost-laden pines, the Beacon would open.
No one who entered ever returned the same. Some claimed they had glimpsed forgotten memories, truths buried beneath lifetimes of doubt. Others spoke of voices-gentle and knowing-that whispered secrets only the soul could understand. And some never returned at all, their footsteps vanishing into the night as if they had simply stepped into another world.
Tonight, the Beacon stirred, sensing a presence on the wind. Someone was coming. Someone in need. The glow of its golden eye deepened, casting long, flickering shadows over the snow.
It was time.
The Beacon would guide them home.
