B flat is hard... great playing!

I agree. Bb is not one of the easier keys because the home now for that left pinky is a black note. However I think about the scale as g bloods and the solos get easier.

I see I 'liked' this some time ago. (LOVE it, actually.) I guess I've made considerable progress in Phil Best's foundational training since then, because this time I ordered 'Improvising Blues Piano’ by Tim Richards as you recommended to someone below.

Sorry I don’t have lessons available for this type of blues. I do have some basic tutorials for baselines and easy right hand licks on this channel and on my Instagram.

How I wish I could do what Andrew Campbell does. I can only imagine sitting at the piano on a spring day with the windows open and playing like this. That'd be a trip.

I've been playing the piano for thirty years now, mostly blues, played more gigs than I can count and much as I love it, there is a slight tragedy that once you can play like this, the amount of time and effort it takes to get so conversant with the instrument means that some of the magic you feel when you hear the music is lost, well, it has been for me at least!
@lshwadchuck56432 жыл бұрын
@@Pete-tq6in What honesty and humility. I suspect the key element is that playing has been your career. I saw an interview with JD Souther where he was asked what he played when at home with friends. He said he'd be as likely to do that as spin on the top of a fence post. I've been drawing and generating visual ideas for a living my whole life. I'm happy to be retired and not even painting. Now that music is where I'm putting my creative energy, I think it's unlikely I'll live long enough to lose the pleasure. I'm fortunate to have a musicality coach whose goal for me is that I become fluent in thelanguage of music and addicted to how good playing feels. He's 55 and still gets high playing, maybe because most of his income comes from teaching.

I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and they have always wowed me. You’ve inspired me to really jump in and start Ultralearning blues piano and improvisation. But... I’ve only been self-teaching for about 6 months and I can barely play Minuet in G and have an even harder time playing by ear. It’s going to be a stretch to say the least. Right now, I know the blues scale and can do a simple shuffle, but I’d really like to expand on that and ask a few questions: 1. What are the key skills I need to learn to play the blues proficiently? 2. What was your journey in learning how to play the blues? 3. Do you offer any online lessons? I would be so grateful if you could answer my questions and help me start my journey!
@andrewcampbell-bluespianop67414 жыл бұрын
Fatou Kourouma .. Hi Fatou, thanks for your comment. I’m glad you’re inspired to learn blues piano. I don’t give online lessons unfortunately but some tips/skills necessary for a beginner would be 1: Hand independence. Always practice the left hand first by itself until it feels natural and comfortable. If the left hand is not solid, further progress will be difficult. Then you can slowly add the right hand parts like simple chords or basic 3 -5 note riffs. Don’t rush it, patience is key. Another key that can help you as it did me is listening to as much blues piano music as possible from a variety of blues pianists. I also recommend searching KZbin for blues piano instructional videos which can be helpful. A great instructional book you can find online is ‘Improvising Blues Piano’ by Tim Richards. Perfect for beginners, covers a range of styles and explains all aspects of blues piano very well. Even comes with a CD...Finally, practice everyday. Even if it’s just 10 minutes. Consistency is essential in learning any new skill. Best of luck!
