Glad u realised that in this day and age, social media industry in the region 🇲🇾🇸🇬 requires ‘all-in-one’ aka baokaliao language abilities.. Even the famous hero namewee 黄明志 - 华小+独中educated and his core management team (perm status senior staff) need to be highly proficient in both Chinese and English in order to work and reach out internationally.

There was one time i was taking MRT and i saw this Chinese couple, 1 spoke Mandarin, and another spoke Cantonese...and both of them communicate throughout the journey 🤣 which i find it interesting. But as a Cantonese/ Mandarin speaker, whenever i go out i also speak Cantonese first, but people won't look at me like 1 kind la 🤣 honestly, I prefer Cantonese first, Mandarin 2nd 🤣🤣

You're such a disgrace for not being linguistic as a Chinese, shame on you 😢😢😢
Dennis, I was totally educated in English ..... Also in a Catholic school. I picked up Mandarin from listening to Mandarin songs and watching Mandarin movies. May be, you can do that as well. I also picked up Cantonese the same way in songs and movies, and while studying in KL. Now, I am back to Sarawak. The ability in speaking and reading in Mandarin helps me a lot in my work now. Don't give up. Add oil... 没问题的。。。。。。

Great collab for the Malaysia’s English ed and Chinese ed background OG KZbinr ! 🎉
For now language is quite important, English, Chinese, Malay or multiply language is very helpful.Even if you can't talk very well with any language but at least can understood ,but we can try our best to learn and speak out. 😊 现在语言蛮重要的,英文 ,华语,马来文(国语)或者多语言是可以帮助到很多方面。如果不会讲最少会听明白, 不过我们可以去试着去学习用我们最大的努力试着讲😊

Jinnyboy is my close friend's uncle. Prioritising English for their first language or daily lives is already in their genes. My friend (jinny's nephew) does speak mandarin but even his family member converse in English whenever we met.

Technically speaking, Mandarin is NOT our native language, it is just a medium language for communication between all Chinese subcultures to unite the Chinese race. Your native language is Cantonese/Teochew, so I’d say you’re fine. Most of us are Southern Chinese and none of our native languages are Mandarin as Mandarin originated from the north, I think it is language and political appropriation to enforce Mandarin on every single Chinese individual who hasn’t been exposed to Mandarin since a young age. In fact, when looking back in history, ancient Chinese were closer to the southern Chinese languages instead of Mandarin, Mandarin has been proven time and time again that it is not the native language of EVERY Chinese.

this, like even as someone from SJKC and took chinese during SPM, i have came to the realization (too late unfortunately) that Mandarin is not and will never be our native language and mother tongue i get irritated when people here glorify mandarin like it's their god and savior and shun our real mother tongues, then the adults blame their children for not knowing how to speak the so-called "dialects" when they were the one that discouraged and punished us for not speaking mandarin even in Kuala Lumpur where Cantonese is still somewhat widespread, it hurts when the adults and elderlies reply to me in Mandarin even though I spoke Cantonese or Hakka to them first like dont give up bro :(
@raymilАй бұрын
@ryannieh I am privileged enough to be raised speaking Mandarin as my native language, but Mandarin should not be forced on any Chinese, because in a way Mandarin is also just a "dialect of the North". Dialects are meant to be mutually telligible, but Chinese isn't, because Mandarin speakers will never understand Hokkien or Cantonese speakers completely, that's why it is Chinese languages not dialects.

Keep canto alive, canto is the lingua franca dialect for klang valley

Thank you for this, It is quite perplexing there is all this glorification of "Mandarin" as the ONLY native language & mother tongue, Sure, I understand the pivot to China due to its steady rise as the a superpower, but there is also this "soft power" influence permeating into everyday life, like XiaoHongShu, China-pop music artistes, China based TV shows, films & dramas. Therefore, using Mandarin as the common language is a no brainer. But this leads to the slow death of other Chinese languages such as Cantonese, Hakka, Teochew, Hokkien, Hainan, Foochow ( Hockchew ). As a 40+ year old Cantonese speaker, it saddens me to see Cantonese being spoken lesser & lesser. Personally, I am forced to pick up business Mandarin in order to get my point across to an increasing amount of Mandarin speaking clients over the years.
@raymil28 күн бұрын
@wonderfulfable The standardization of Mandarin is useful, but not at the expense of other Chinese languages being assimilated and erased... It is more responsible if the youth are proficient in both Mandarin and their own native language
During the old days most of the Klang Valley/Perak speak Cantonese. But more and more migrate from different states plus heavy influence from China so speaking Mandarin become essentials to most of the Chinese.
@leealex2421 күн бұрын
Then, we must 100% preserve and use much much more our local dialects/language. Penang hokkien and klang valley cantonese. Why must follow that "one" country? This is Malaysia. We're unique.

4:00 “Chinese” doesn't necessarily mean "Mandarin" (勉柢䌢;華北語). Chinese language family (中文語系) / Sinitic language family (漢語語系) consists of Cantonese, Hokkien, Teochew, Hakka, Mandarin, etc. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaOQnp6aeLiDj7M
