This ballet is gorgeous. Never have I watched a ballet onscreen that I finished. What a beautiful job the dancers did, and the music was beautiful. I wish I could tell them personally how wonderful they were.

You should also try this version on uTube-gorgeous kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHm9oJ6PqKdkpqs even better than this one(Maryiinsky) In my own subjective opinion is a hard act to follow.Greetings from Ireland

Best storytelling of the Nutcracker Ballet. The addition of kids as kids makes this ballet a Christmas classic. The young ballerina is perfect in her role. This ballet is more appreciated for the progression of the story as well as the choreography and costumes. Perfect except for the older ballerina, sorry. I love it overall. I hope to watch this every year so don't dare delete this.

I love the first half of this Ballet! The music and arrangement is far better a clear thought of what was trying to be achieved. To me, the beauty of the loveliness of music and dance. The sound enhances every bit of what you see! The applause is untimely and disrupting to the performers!
Bravo! The splendid audition exposes the magnificent sound of orchestra. The solo trumpet has beautiful unique sing like sound. The splendid direction reveals the super fine camera work and it exposes the magnific dancers, their unforgettable presentation to this property of mankind. Thank you for sharing this!
I've rewatched this ballet so many times and I absolutely love it every single time. However, I just realized that the girls' dresses at the party, are the equivalent of "you can copy my homework just changed it so the teacher doesn't notice".

I love the way they do the switch from the young dancers to Somova and Shklyerov. Shklyerov is absolutely flawless. Somova has her good points but in arabesque her working leg always seems to be out to the side rather than right behind her. Gorgeous penchee and back attitude, though. Really love the first act in this production. Tempi in second act often slow enough to feel dragged. I guess that was a Sugar Plum pas de six? Prefer it as a pdd and they made a really odd cut in the music in the woman's solo. Video editing is in many places quite good but there are places you want to smack the video editor upside the head. Seeing a ballerina in motion from her tutu skirt up is not what you care about if you're a dance enthusiast! But overall I do like this production, especially the way the dancing in the first act is taylored.

I like that pro analysis, Minissa. Always liked Tchaikovsky's music, but started liking ballet only... this week actually. Saw a Nutcracker production on TV a few days ago with new eyes. Maybe more nostalgic eyes, nostalgia of old Europe. So not switching TV channels when I see ballet this time. At least not this one. I've learned a couple of ballet terms today on KZbin. I agree with you that the pas de six with the Sugar Plum should have been a pas de deux. The rest of what you noticed is so far nothing I can see. I think Somova is very gracious and rather pretty, which is important in a production like this, which even has camera closeups in this case. For me, this Mariinsky Theatre production is magic. I'm a rather hard, angry and aggressive person nowadays in business matters, but this video made me cry. More than once.

@@DudeNormaundie Somova has come a long way since I first discovered the enormous world of ballet on YT. In her earlier videos, she took the beautiful upper body fluidity typical of dancers trained in Russia and kind of over-articulated her arms so you thought you were watching an octopus in pointe shoes (sorry for that comparison, but not exaggerating!) I like her much better since she's gotten her upper body under control, although she retains a few mannerisms like the chin jut from the pre-glasnost ballerinas. If you liked her, check out anything with Victoria Tereshkina (also a principal, completely matured like a fine wine) or Olesya Novikova (still a soloist, God knows why). Glad to hear you're no longer changing channels at the first sign of guys in tights!

Wonderful production, unfortunately it is not complete, as for some reason they decided to omit the Mother Ginger dance, instead skipping directly to the Waltz of the Flowers after the Dance of the Reed Pipes

The Nutcracker is quite an interesting ballet even though the music was composed a long time ago by the late Pyotr Lynch Tchaikovsky. It makes me feel like a kid again. 🤣 Conflict in Yuletide fantasy seems to be good at scaring the crud out of the audience when they see it. Mice are scary in reality even though they don't battle Nutcracker dolls and their toy soldier armies. 👍🏻 if the battle scene of The Nutcracker scared the **** out of when you were Clara's age.

I noticed the title is a bit different from Tchaikovsky's "the Nutcracker" and I know there is a slightly different version of this ballet that was written by the same person that wrote the children's book, "where the wild things are" I was wondering if that was this version, the one performed by the Pacific Northwest Ballet 20 or so years ago.
