This was supposed to be a “short” companion piece to a short opera? It’s almost an hour in duration, and the sheer breadth and scope of the musical material and orchestration is staggering. I can hardly imagine what it must be like to hear this piece performed live, let alone be one of the performers. As an aspiring professional clarinetist getting ready to pursue my Master’s, this is near the top of the list of orchestral works I just HAVE to play someday.
