You know... there doesn't seem to be much change the dancer's facial expression, yet there's so much emotion shown in the subtle things the dancer does. It's rather nice.

Hi their, thanks a lot for keeping your eyes on japanese culture. i'm japanese and i regret that not so many japanese young age peole interested in its own culture. i guess foreign people are more curious to know about dancig like this... sigh. Well, orochi story is a typical oral folklore in japan and it can be picked up all over japan especially in deep mountain side. my country holds a story almost same as well. thus the plot of dancing has been written baced on these old folklores. i love it

I said to myself that I wouldn't watch this for eight minutes....when it was done I didn't even realize eight minutes had passed!! This is really beautiful and I enjoyed the story. The English narration really helped with the understanding of the story! Thanks a bunch!

Props to this guy, cuz apparently he's 60, but more impressively he can keep up with such an irregular unobvious rhythm with such grace. And his face is so stoic yet melancholic the whole time. It makes you pity the character.

God so beautiful. Tamasaburo against that moonlite stage makes me think I've seen the old gods of Japan come to life and I'd better hide or I'll be spirited away. So heartbreakingly lovely. I wish I could live in a world like he makes me see and feel.

once you lay aside your own cultural teachings of theater & art, this is no different, even in another spoken language; the language of the body is understood throughout. This could have had 10 more parts & I would have watched them all eagerly as I had goosebumps from the imagery. Thank you for sharing this!

Yes, in ancient Japan, women would have hair that would grow to extremely long lengths. You can see some representations in old Japanese paintings. I'm not sure which period, but I have seen some silk screen paintings of women with long, beautiful hair like that. :)

This was really beautiful. I have to say, though, parts f this story reminded me a lot of the game Okami. I wonder if the part about Orochi was partially inspired by this story since I know many of the demons within the game are based off of old Japanese legends.

I love Japanese tails. But they seem to drag on for a long time and take completely different directions. trailing off from the original story line. But it does seem more interesting that way

this is truely mesmorizing. the dance is slow and doesn't rush and the actions are very well thought out as well as expressive, yet calm and composed throughout. I really do wish other people could have the interest and access to this mystical form of art.

Traditionally yes, women were banned from acting in the kabuki plays since they began atracting the wrong kind of audiences, young men took on their rolls but were also banned by the shogunate for the same reasons as women and so only old men were allowed to do it. Some local kabuki troupes today use female actors but apparently not many. This particular actor is in his late fifties.

yeah, orochimaru is from orochi but I guess kishimoto made Orochimaru a male because in the story, orochi is a female
