Bó na leathadhairce ('The one-horned cow') is a playful song learned by many children in school. With origins in county Kerry, located on the south-west coast of Ireland, the one-horned cow is a metaphor for a poitín still (think Irish home-brewed alcohol) and the lyrics become more peculiar as the song unfolds, perhaps reflecting the increased level of intoxication of the singer, ‘B’fhearr liom ná scilling go bhfeicfinn mo chaora ’Teacht chun an dorais' ('I would prefer to a shilling to see my sheep come to the door’).

I'm just now hearing this song for the very first time (it's currently 5:15 AM here where I'm at). I'm just shocked by how angelic the background choir sounds going in perfect sync with the main singer here (praise to you, my friend) and the soft beating of the drum. This crowd always brings me both joy and tears - maybe I'm just growing into a sentimental old fool. The beauty of their work (and ultimately the conductor, I would guess) 100% of the time astounds me, and makes me wonder why I pursued anything but Irish choral music. Probably living in Texas 90% of my life has not helped in such a goal! I know the group changes as students move on to their chosen directions, but WOW! are you guys all great. I hope you appreciate greatly the opportunity you have to be part of this - the memories will be a treasure as you get older.
