This is the first rap I ever tried to memorized and after all these years, I can still recite every verse. Its muscle memory at this point. I remember listening to it the first time on tv, not even the MV, it's some sort of ads on cinemax and losing my shit because it sounds so good. OKAY, GUYS. So my good friend Jonathan (Fun fact: This is actually the first song in his life that he memorized the lyrics for) and I were home alone listening to 'old' music that reminded us of elementary school and when he pulled this up (I hadn't heard it in over five years) and we were watching the video for it all normal. We were singing along and grinning and having old nostalgic fun. Something about the singing-guy's voice was familiar and my head was searching and searching in my lyrical and vocal library to try to remember whose voice sounded like that... AND THEN I SAW RIVERS CUOMO ON THE SCREEN AND (I kid you not) I SCREAMED AND JUMPED UP. Jonathan was staring at me like I was crazy, meanwhile I was a tearing-up mess. Weezer is a great band and I'm a 90s kid musically (yes, I'm the type of 90s fan that will admittedly get into arguments with young and fake fans- I'm not proud of it, but I hate people who give other teenagers who ACTUALLY love the 90s >Even though I'm the only one of those except my boi Nick< a bad name). I started pointing at the screen and waving my finger around and whimpering, "I HAVE POSTERS OF HIM ALL OVER MY ROOM. THAT IS MY BOI RIVERS CUOMO, PLEASE HELP." After I had calmed down and I could talk coherently, I told Jonathan what was up and then made him listen to like twelve Weezer songs (plus the other song I know that he was featured on- Snowed In by Big Data). Looking back on it, the whole situation was pretty funny, but now I'm just mad at my past-self for not knowing it was him, even if that was literally impossible for me to know back then. ...
