Loved the fact that you used a "crappy" location to demonstrate how to make it look as good as possible. Great job - tons of people fly to exotic locations to show off technique and they have the advantage of a great location. Most of us have to make crap look good! You did it!

Paraphrased but, “the main difference between an amateur and a professional is that the professional tries harder”. That’s so true. Whenever I need to film something (usually getting broll) I feel so much pressure, feel so afraid to fail that I end up trying so hard...trying basically everything, every angle, every lens. At the end I get so much footage to choose from, that I can make a good sequence. I don't consider myself talented, but insanely hard working. That's how I learned "videography" which in turn allows me to study engineering.

I'm not sure if you were lampooning Peter McKinnon but since I consider him massively overrated and full of himself (his gushing review of his signature ND lens and downplaying the EOS R5 heat issues ruined his credibility even further) so I certainly hope so. I love Peter McKinnon ver. 2017-2018, been learning a lot from his earlier vids. but recently he's just doing things that he's been telling everyone not to do, forgetting why he was creating vids in the first place, plus I agree, those product collabs and overpriced ND filters are all that he talks about. 😂
@garydiamondguitarist
@garydiamondguitarist 4 жыл бұрын
@@tashacamilleenerio-valdez3927 I think this is what happens when you go from genuinely caring about the craft to being sucked into the vortex of being a sponsored influencer. You're right, some of his earlier work is insightful rather than "buying this thing which I endorse and make a subsidy on will make you a better photog" which is where he is now. Thankfully Gerald Undone is flourishing when it comes to in-depth technical reviews of cameras so I don't feel like I'm missing out, plus UK's own James Popsys runs a small but well-respected channel which studies certain shooting techniques and opinions in depth like Peter used to.

I started out shooting news in the early 90's. A few things I learned have been extremely valuable over the years. 1. Get a wide and MCU/CU of each shot if you can. 2. Shoot unique angles (the stuff you showed here) 3. Hold your shots. I've worked with vids who don't hold a shot and I just want to choke them! Hang on the end of shot for a few seconds. It doesn't cost you anything and the editor will thank you.

As a photographer who is playing with the idea of starting videography, or at the very least vlogging, I gave the video a like for the great content and amount of knowledge I gained without this being a boring lecture of b-roll. As a Peter McKinnon fan, I went ahead and subscribed, and I am now ready to go ahead and cancel my day to watch as much videos as I can from you.

These tips were great! At the end of the day you are completely correct, the major separation between a beginner and a pro is not only trying harder but also knowing what to look for in order to spice up that shot and get a more interesting perspective. I love how that was all done handheld as well, no tripod or stabilizer. Great stuff!
