B Slade Kills 'Greatest Love of All' at Kelly Price Presents: For The Love of R&B

Music aficionado, B Slade lived up to his name after slaying an entire room of R&B lovers at the 2nd Annual "For The Love of R&B" presented by Kelly Price, held at The Attic. The uber vocalist belted out a self-arranged rendition of "Greatest Love of All," by the late Whitney Houston, who was the honoree of the night.
Other performers who hit the stage in the name of R&B include, Grammy Nominees: Angie Fisher and Antonique Smith, as well as the soulful Goapale and legendary Faith Evans. Sevyn Streeter cut a rug with "I Want To Dance With Somebody" while media outlets from E!, Extra, and more captured the entire event.

That has NO bearing at all on his testimony, vocal ability, speaking his peace etc. I don't like to see covers of songs so drastically changed from the original to the point of non familiarity. IMO, he doesn't always have to display his vocal skills when singing live. Dialing back some is a good thing.

I don't think he did the song any injustice by changing it. I think as a musician (because he is one) and as a minister (because he is one), he chose what he wanted to bring out of the song and that was "Find Your Strength in Love". If anything was too much, it was the extra talking in the audience. He clearly tapped into some of his "preacher" with his rendition.

re the description the song was recorded originally by George Benson not Whitney. Tonex is techincally superb but no one can sing this song like George! Georges performance is epic! Tonex is one of the greatest male vocalists ever but the wrong tone for this song, too high and no emotion. There are a few male vocalists that you could put alongside Tonex like Earnest Pugh, Jay Adams, Smokie Norful etc Just because a vocalist has a high profile or is signed to a major it doesnt mean they are the best. plenty of great singers dont make great songs. There are also great female vocalists that can slay who are giants in house music like susu bobien, michelle weeks and Dawn Tallman plus many others its just that they are not signed to a major or havent been endorsed by a major recording artist but trust me if you do some digging there are plenty out there its not all about Kim and Tonex. Listen to susu bobien 'you bring me Joy' (guy robins remix) and tell me that girl is not up there with the greats!

B Slade is a really good singer. One thing that irks me is that he takes a classic song like this and completely changes it. There is no groove, the melody is changed almost entirely, the chorus hangs... we're just waiting to see what he will do with it. I couldn't even sing along with the song, Whitney doesn't change the song that much when she sings live. I told him that one time and he got mad at me. I don't like this performance, but I love B Slade.
