I've been trying to find this song for 20 years after a friend played this dvd for me once around 2002, finally came across this just now and it's as gorgeous as I remember.

I saw this performance. It was a baking hot weekend, just scorching, for the first ever Bonnaroo. I'd listened to Edgar Meyer play with Yo Yo Ma, and was also a Flecktones fan so I was keen to see what these guys would do. Incredible, and so different from most of the other music at the fest. In the middle of their performance, out of nowhere there was a torrential downpour, and the crowd went wild just loving the relief, arms stretched up into the sky and embracing the warm rain. It only lasted for a short while, the only reprieve from the heat all weekend. Just an amazing experience all around.

i literally havent heard this in 10 years. it still completely blows my mind how sounds and music have the ability to transport you back in time (sometimes into the future as well). but the sights, the smells, the conversations that were being had with brothers that are no longer here - all come back instantly. beautiful..........

I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Bela Fleck a couple of times following performances by Bela and the Flecktones. I found him to be a truly down to earth person, more than willing to meet and speak with his fans. Can't think of any musician I admire and enjoy more. And, if Edgar Meyer's virtuoso bass playing doesn't make you feel good, well then that's just too bad. Also, look for Bela and the Flecktones' DVD, Live at the Quick Theater. You will not be disappointed.

Man, I've been looking for this clip forever (almost went and bought the bonnaroo dvd just for the one song) and was disappointed that it wasn't on uncommon ritual. Sick sick sick, bela's (obviously) the man and that f-ing jam by edgar is unreal. Got some nimble digits for such a frumpy looking dude.

Those runs he does on bass are so good it's nasty. Pulling those arpeggios isn't easy on an upright. Two legends right there

As a cellist who has had a bass in hand, I join the resounding chorus: Edgar Meyer is the World's Premiere BassMasster!! Just to watch his mind work as his body responds flawlessly, in absolute pitch consistency on the most difficult stringed instrument. Awed.

This is my favorite performance on the DVD, well worth the buy if you have a good home theater, Edgar Myer's bass really comes to life with the crisp picking of the banjo when you crank that shit up to 11. AWESOME!!!

Yah buddy I second that. I just finally got mine all hooked up and this video sounds amazing. Although I had to add more bass than just the klipsh sub, so I also added a couple high power 12" Alpines, plus a couple 15" cerwin vega speakers. Great set, and I was at the 2002 bonaroo, one of the best festivals ever, went back in 2006 when it started going totally corporate and haven't been back since they were all about the $$$ and no longer all about the music.

I've seen Bela live in concert several times, a couple times with Zakir Hussein and Edgar Meyer, but no performance quite matches the excellence of this one. Wish I could have seen this one live in concert, it's my favorite performance on the video (though I love most of them).
