Edgar Meyer makes the bow funky. It takes skill to play with a good sound and good time at that speed. But more than that, Mr. Meyer has this bouncing 16th note pules that reminds of the great funk bass player's bubbling bass lines. And somehow he generates that with the bow. Its amazing.

I've never heard a more captivating performance on the Bass -- regardless of genre, or whether upright or electric. I haven't seen a lot of Chris Thile's videos, but from what I *_have_* watched, this is the first time I've found somebody among *_ALL_* of the excellent musicians that have shared the stage with Chris who's as riveting as he is.

Edgar is the man! He's mentored bassist like Victor Wooten and Ray Brown and other muscians like Bella Fleck. Also collabes regularly with YoYo Ma and of course, Chris Thile and Stuart Duncan. _Goat Rodeo Sessions_ might be one of the greatest "super groups" ever!

I would like to describe these two guys as, "musicians musicians" .... does that make sense ? Mr Thile slips into a Nashville lick on a climb, for. a few notes ... I LOVE it. Thank you for posting it (Y)

that is a well-loved Dudenbostel that Chris is playing. I've seen videos of it when it was brand new in 2002... seven years later he's still making it sizzle.

Sure, Thile is a multi-genre, multi-instrument genius, a composer and arranger with few peers, a prodigy, a tireless, open-minded, synthesizing wonder, a once a generation sort of occurrence, but what really amazes me? He made the mandolin sexy. Mandolin players now getting laid a lot thank him very, very much.

@Clanidan actually I think that's Chris's Gibson F5 since the head scroll is still intact in this video. His Dudenbostel lost its head scroll when Thile fell after a show once.

guys guys what are these discussions about?... who cares if people are remembered or not... who needs to be remembered... when you're dead you're gone and end of story... do you think Bach is around to see and hear the whole world playing his music like he probably never could have imagine it could be played?... these cats don't care if their work stays for the prosperity other than their life time... they're way over that... they're just having fun... happy to be able to do what pleases them.
