Båtbyggingslinja på Fosen Folkehøgskole bygger en åfjords-seksring, skoleåret 2018/2019.
Båten er bygd med støtte fra Forbundet Kysten og Sparebankstiftelsen DNB, og er en kopi av en gammel båt fra Smøla.

Hello, I am writing to you from Brazil... my intention is to build a small Viking-type ship ("Faering" or "Oselvar" type). I know that the traditional and historical method of joining wood is using a mixture of pine resin and sheep's wool; From what I've read, this method makes it necessary to flood the boat from time to time to hydrate the wood (I don't know if this is actually true). My question is: if I can use some modern substance such as "epoxy" to avoid problems and have the advantage of waterproofing and maintaining the flexibility and cohesion of the wood? Thank you

Flooding the boat or «trutne» as we call is really simple. I would recommend doing that instead of covering the boat in epoxy. Small water leakages through the cover could result in wood rot as the wood has no ability to breathe through the plastic. It would also be really difficult to do maintanence on the boat in the future.
