I think the 805s are getting brighter and brighter every generation. May be that's what the B&W customers want because there was a time when the old B&W sound was just too warm. But, I think they might have overdone it a tad. I think if you listen to a few tracks, it may be great, but I am just not sure whether people can handle this level of brightness and detail on extended listening.

The diamond tweeters has been made with 801s and 802s in mind, pairing 805s with some richer sounding class A amps or Mcintosh would work just fine, and no silver cables.

Even more detailed than Focal? I am not sure about that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJ_RaKWapNd8nc0
@ganck11472 жыл бұрын
@@Rascallucci B&W has a different presentation to Focals. Focals are more prominent in the upper mid range making for a more glaring & forward midrange whereas B&Ws are a tad more relaxed in this region making for a slightly more laid back & sweeter presentation. I prefer the B&W style but sone prefer the Focal presentation. As far as detail goes, B&W are known to excel in this area. Its not without a reason they are used in many prestigious studios around the world.

I am always amused when pple say B&Ws make their ears bleed when nobody ever says that avantgarde or klipsch make their ears bleed. The highs from B&Ws are very detailed & clean but yet smooth & super refined & sweet. Of cos this is only possible when they are appropriately driven.
@ganck11472 жыл бұрын
@Make Money Online i was just generalising…..i haven’t heard the latest 800 D4 series but according to my experience, B&Ws will sound bright & lacking in bass if they are not properly driven. 1st sign of poorly driven B&Ws is always a lack of bass. All things being equal, a lack of bass will make the highs seem especially bright & highlighted. I mentioned klipsch & avantgarde as i heard several spks from these 2 brands that sound really unbearable esp avantgarde. A friend of mine home trialled the avantgarde & told me he cannot listen to the spks in his listening room. He has to listen to them in his garden cos they were too jarring & honky…..just like a Megaphone. :)

I would be curious to hear an A/B test with the 805's against KEF LS50 Meta
@mysock351C2 жыл бұрын
The KEF LS50 Metas will be much more neutral. Due to the lack of any baffle and use of a conventional "dome" shape for the diamond tweeter diaphragm sans any guide, these have a HUGE suck out right in the 2-3 kHz region. With the reverberant room they have kind of a neat "distant" sound to them even in the recording, but it makes a lot of the formants sound almost "slurred" due to the variations there. I sort of remember that when I heard the larger 800 series as well in person. If it was not for the odd design, they would be truly fantastic speakers. They have much more capable drivers than the LS50's do. They still sound very good, but the messiness right in the middle puts a bit of a ding in the tonality.

I hv compared my old cm6s2 with the original LS50 & to me there was no comparison. Cm6S2 far more transparent, bigger with superb depth & soundstage layering not to mention more PRAT & dynamic. Of cos for this to happen, B&W must be properly driven. The LS50 sounded murky & smoky after the CM6s2. So i would think that 805D4 will probably smoke LS50 meta too. Ymmv.

@@kinggodzilla7647 No waveguide to help mesh the tweeter with the woofer. This causes the off-axis to be just random sounds from 1-3 kHz, which sound different than the direct sound.
