I find it MORE inspirational to go try something new when a demonstration is made by a talented, experienced individual like yourself, Mat, and it doesn't go perfectly. It shows that real humans can produce beautiful work through perseverance and patient troubleshooting. Overcoming the obstacles only increases the value of successes!

Man so bummed that I missed another one. I really enjoyed this one Mat, thanks for showing us the "real". we all have struggles and it is okay; that's how we learn and improve.

Enjoyed the video and the final print. Thank you for all your efforts. I appreciate the difficulty in doing a live stream away from your regular darkroom. Just started this year shooting a 4x5 Crown Graphic and pinhole cameras. I have been shooting B/W paper negatives and contact printing them. It’s been a blast even when things go wrong. One thing I always try to remember is it always looks easier on KZbin.😅

Your stress in there was quite visible with the fogged paper - love the final print you made, I'd sure hang it on my wall.

I always seem to be at work when you're live, but I love watching you in the darkroom after the fact. Bummer about your RC paper, seems like the whole pack got fogged. The 12x20 print though - absolutely magnificent! Do you have somewhere we can see a higher res version of that photo?

For your next live stream it might be helpful to post a short video a couple of days beforehand teasing the livestream, In split grade printing do equal exposure times of 00 and 5 give the same result as using a single middle grade exposure, assuming there was no dodge or burning to reinforce a high or low contrast area? I've seen videos saying that they are, others claiming the opposite. Steve Sherman seems to insist they are not, and I tend to believe him. I need to play with this more. Interestingly, in The Print, Ansel Adams was not keen on split grade because the papers of the day didn't tone the same between the hard and soft layers. Despite the technical problems I really enjoyed this video. More please!

To answer my own question, I see that split grade printing gives me much more control than I ever had with graded paper or using a single contrast filter. Thanks

Your hairdressser may have improved but you should brush your hair before start filming.
