I have a skunk2 pro on my gsr. Honestly i kinda liked the stock dual runner IAB manifold better. In my opinion the stock mani is much better in the low end. If I wasn't planning on boosting I would put the stock mani back on mine. But thats just me. I was thinking of taking it apart and modifying it a bit with a port and polish and using it for an all motor build.

I hate to break it to you man but on a stock block/stock cam stock port head setup you almost certainly LOST power with that 70mm TB than gained. That's way too big; the SK2 manifold opening is only 67 anyway, and your not even to the point of maxing out a stock GSR TB so there's no reason to upgrade and you are in fact now killing airspeed which will hurt your low/midrange power and your too end will stay the same or MAYBE gain 1-2 whp if you have spend a lot of time on the dyno playing with the high cam timing maps and adjust the fuel with a wideband. Just throwing a random chip basemap and big TB is never a good idea I'm sorry. Bigger isn't always better! (Atleast it looks clean!)
@joedoole3527
@joedoole3527 7 жыл бұрын
Not hating by the way, I enjoy your channel but I'm a Honda/Nissan tuner by trade and I've dynoed and tuned dozens of stock block B20Vs and almost all have the same manifolds and the results from big TB stock block cars are never impressive. Best thing you can do smooth the casting flaws out of the intake ports(dremel or by hand) then adjust your tune, VTEC around 4800 (or whenever your low cam falls off; set VTEC very high, around 6000 then do a pull and make note of the RPM where the power falls off on the low cam. Set VTEC cross at this point for max power and a smooth transition) Once you set VTEC, add a little fuel just before the crossover, target a 12.9-13.1:1 AFR, going to a 13.2-13.6:1 AFR after the crossover (or if on a dyno whatever makes power). Then right before rev limiter (I suggest 8300 max with GSR springs, 8500 max with Type R springs.) pull some timing out (1-3 degrees) to help your peak power carry longer. (You will peak around 7600-7900)
@joedoole3527
@joedoole3527 7 жыл бұрын
Rev Limit suggestions assuming you did ARP Rod bolts on the big ends, if stock LS rods/bolts i would shut it down by 7900-8000 to be safe regardless of valve springs. Also, if your running a Socketed OBD1, I would be more than happy to write a good map for you and that setup if you would like and send you the chip. As I said I do enjoy the channel and I also enjoy helping the Honda enthusiast community and help forum memebers with tunes all the time, so I would be more than happy to help you as well just tell me where to send it.

Joe Doole , what would be the best target AFR's for the whole range of B20VTEC? low cam and high cam. thanks!
@joedoole3527
@joedoole3527 7 жыл бұрын
Well the "best" would be what makes the most power, as every setup is a little different. Throw the car on a dyno and play with timing and fuel untill you get the best curve and numbers. But as a starting point go 14.5-14.7:1 for low cam low Throttle cruise, 13.0-13.2 at the VTEC cross and then lean out a bit after that for the rest of the wide Throttle high cam map to around 13.5:1. As I said tho every engine is a little different especially depending on modification, cams, compression etc so some may like a little more fuel, some a little less. The best thing to do as said above is get the car on a dyno and do a few pulls to see what it likes. You can street tune but the "butt dyno" can be deceiving. Another useful tool is tuning at the dragstrip based on trap speed. If you make a pass and trap 103 mph, then add fuel and trap 104 you know you made power, however if you add fuel and it drops to 102 you know you lost power so lean it back out.

You do understand, you can't just toss an intake manifold onto a motor without tuning it and expect it to run correctly, nevermind actually make "more power". The butt dyno lies.
@sp00nfedem1
@sp00nfedem1 7 жыл бұрын
Well, therefore there isn’t even a reason to test drive it after install. You’re doing nothing but hurting the motor with lean harsh air

@joedoole3527
@joedoole3527 7 жыл бұрын
Save the SOHC if you put a turbo On a NA car without tuning you won't make Power you'll make a mess........because your oil will be all over the floor and the engine will be a paper weight. What spoon is saying is 100% accurate; that B20V in the DA is not even close to Maxing out a stock GSR TB as far as airflow, so all he did by putting on a 70mm TB is kill his airspeed and therefore hurt his low/mid RPM power. He MIGHT gain 2-3 HP up top of the rev range with those parts but without dialing in the AFR and timing it's doubtful he even saw that much of a gain. If your not going to tune your car, leave the stock intake/TB on it, period. I've been tuning late model Honda's and Nissans for over a decade and have 100s of hours of experience with what parts do in the real world on a dyno. Putting a huge Throttle body on an NA car is a bad idea everytime. Even for a boosted setup it's been proven the stock Honda gear is good up to 400+whp, so it's definitely not a restriction at the 160-170whp he's making now.
@KungPao916
@KungPao916 7 жыл бұрын
Savethe Sohc Going to a bigger TB and changing out to a single runner IM is a bad idea without doing any internal work.You make more power? I can guarantee you he lost a bunch of low to mid-range and the stock GSR IM is underrated for a street car. You don't switch out to a fat ass TB and some knock-off Skunk copy of the ITR IM, without upgrading CAMS, pistons and expect to make optimal power AND not tuning afterwards. It's funny that you mentioned H-T, go there, check out some of the dyno graphs and see if the ITR copy is better than the stock GSR IM. For a street car, I'd would stick to the GSR IM, upgrade to a 64mm TB port matched, CTR cams, 3" CAI with velocity stack, TODA header and 2.5" piping, ITR flywheel, stage 2 clutch. I had a few B18C1s in my younger days. LUL
@joedoole3527
@joedoole3527 7 жыл бұрын
Pao I tried to tell them that like the first couple days this video dropped. With a stock internal engine they are not even close to moving enoug air to need a manifold and TB with that much volume. The stock GSR TB and Intake (with IABs deleted) is good untill around 200 wheel HP. The airflow requirements for an engine making 160-170 HP like his is plenty adequate for what stock GSR components provide. It's just like people who upgrade their fuel rail and fuel lines or stock ignition system for a 300-400 HP turbo setup. The stock B series components in that area are proven to 500+ HP. Ive been tuning for a decade plus and I see it every day. Add a fuel pump and injectors and that's it, your good for an easy 400+ boosted hp as far as Fuel and ignition go. And for a basic bolt B series on there's no need to upgrade to a bigger TB or intake. Save that money and put it towards a good header and a real tune. The benefits will be MUCH greater. (I average 10-12whp gains or more from 4000 rpm to peak on all the stock engine bolt on B series I tune)
