Folks, this is the man that upgrades speakers by changing the crossover network. So, if you buy a Kef Q150 for $299 a pair, You can modify it with $300 kit from GR research. You now have paid $600. Hopefully, you will see what $600 buys for a pair of speakers in comparison to this mod kit. Also, modding your speaker crossover network will likely void the warranty. Now, GR research will show you charts and graphs and tests for his mod kits. Funny, we don't see ANY before/after data for his $250 power cord!

@@MrTanaris To answer your first question. When I plug in a new badass cable, it instantly sounds better. When I switch back to the old cable, I get that same feeling you had when you realized your last girlfriend wasn't as good looking as you remember. It's just not something you want to go back to. Second answer-if your halfway smart, you only make one change at a time. Let it burn in. Then listen, listen to the same songs every single day. After a few months time it's time for the next change. When you say "Physically" i think you mean what is changing physically with my system? Set up is the most important thing that makes your get-up sound awesome. A cheap system set up very well in a good to great room is responsible for 80% of how your system will sound. Speaker location in paramount! For those of you who are unable or just refuse to try to pull your speakers at least 3 feet from the wall, never buy upgraded cables, you're wasting your money. Spend your money on better speakers. once you find the best location for your speakers. it's all about room treatments. Proper speaker toe is completely undercompletely emphasized. My most inportant thing is proper toe in. Then there's absorbtion, difussion, first reflections, second reflections, absorb or difuse? the more items on that list you properly address, the better you music will sound. For cheap ppl like me, I want value and comparatively speaking, Danny's products are a bargain. To me, the cables are the icing on the cake. I currently have about twice as much money into cables, as i do into my current speakers. The return on your speaker investment is soley dependent on how well you set them up. You need to have all of the parts working together to hear what Danny speaks of. Once done even sorta decent, you'll be rewarded with a kinda sorta 3D holographic audio image that will knock your socks off. Then, after you refine your set up abilities, clean up your bass, learn about room modes and reflections. You again be rewarded with another jump towerd realism when you can actually here seperation and distance between everything in music. Once you get to the point and you've been sucessful in bass management, you will actually hear way more bass than you can imagine. Clean, powerful, non house rattling bass that will enrich the way you breathe. Once you've done that, and invested even a few bucks and cheap power cables on amazon, When you spend even a little more on another cable, you will be able to get a sense of what the room the music was recorded in sounds and feels like. After that you get better imaging and a sense of movement of the sound to the point that it will rival the best multi channel speaker system you can imagine. Yes... it's that good. If you done a good job in your room you will hear things appear 200 feet to the left and righ of you, 100 beyound the wall your speakers rest against, or 60 feet hehind you. All from just two speakers. The next step is when you learn cables make a massive difference in sound, imaging, soundstage, imersion, and just a very large factor of overall performance. In the case of it being a legitimate reason for burn in it usually comes down to cost benefit. Specialist mechanical systems will often require a certain routine to bed them in, and ensure that parts are correctly lubricated or at their correct tolerance. It might add a lot of cost to fully do that at the factory and shipping might disturb it anyway. In the case of more consumer products a manufacture may want to spend the extra expense doing it at the factory because they know consumers don't read instructions and might end up with a higher failure rate in the long term. In the case of speaker cables and the like, the burn in period is almost certainly nonsense. The burn in effect is because people get used to the sound or convince themselves it sounds a certain way. Humans are incredibly good at adjusting their perceptions.

Not gonna criticize. I'm sure you get enough of that already. If you're going to talk about power cables, then you should talk about house wiring and wiring inside each unit of your system. Then we need to talk about power supplies, what they do and their limitations. I've seen even super high end equipment run power in parallel within millimeters of the signal path - ready to pick up the emf of every transient. Any electrical engineer will tell you that every transient produces an emf - especially in the thin foil of a circuit board. Blocking emf at the back of a rack system is not snake oil. But because it's such a small part of the whole that it's not the nirvana one hopes it would be. It's equally important, if not more important, to use really good quality XLR patch cables. And manufacturers have to do a much better job at isolating the signal path, and quit trying to achieve maximum occupation of every millimeter of the circuit board. I am disappointed though. I was hoping to see a cross section of the cable - at least on paper. Or at least something on its construction. This is basically a 7:49 advertisement. Don't get me wrong, you need to sell stuff. I get it. But still...
@jdlech3 жыл бұрын
The easiest and probably cheapest thing you can do for your system is to run a second set of nomex wire through a grounded, conductive conduit from your circuit breaker box to your stereo plugs just like a commercial installation. This will cut down on EMF and cut the resistance of your house wiring in half for the least amount of cost. You could add more wiring, but never achieve the "bang for the buck" as you would with the first doubling. And it is equally important that the conduit be properly grounded for proper shielding. Not that you need it much more than 15 feet away from your system and speaker wires. But the more conduit, the merrier. Second would be to bypass the wall plug altogether and wire the power cable directly to the nomex through a hole in the wall, and directly couple the conduit directly to the power cable shielding for a more continuous shielding right to the back of the system. None of this addresses the EMF problems present inside the components. For that, you need to open each unit up and address the problems as you find them. And there's often nothing you can do.

20 years ago, I had a $100,000 home system. (At retail) I also did my own car systems. Both home and car were close to the best I have ever heard, my car was for sure the best car system I had heard. Note: I have listened too cars that won competitions for best sound. I have listened too music as my hobby since I was 12. I say all of this, too indicate that I do have a relatively good idea of how great systems can sound. Now I have a $700.00 system. Note $300.00 of it, is for the power cord from Danny. This $700.00 system is the best sound I have ever heard. Let me qualify that by also saying, current recordings are a big reason for the better sound. I am quite sure my $100,000 system would likely win when given the same good quality recordings. THE POWER CABLE MADE A DIFFERENCE. I live in an apartment, I listen in the living room which is part of the kitchen. My apartment is extremely quiet, just 24 db. According to my sound meter, 24 db is at the threshold of hearing! Think of the quietest place you’ve ever been, it’s like that. The refrigerator is 30 feet away, and it is very quiet and I never noticed it, running or not, while I listened to my system, until I added the power cable. Now, I won’t listen to my system if the refrigerator is running, because the refrigerator annoys me too much! Ever since I put the new power cable in my system, I have to turn the refrigerator down a few degrees 3-4 hours before a listening session, so that I can turn the temperature up (Back to normal) which shuts the unit down for several hours. Obviously my system had some noise in it with my original power cable (Standard cable) which prevented me from noticing the refrigerator running. I can hear your frustration already, your saying to yourself, “Tell us about this $700.00 system!” This won’t take long. I have a pair of powered speakers. Kantos YU6’s ($400.00) Playing 5 ft away from the wall, 8 ft apart, and 8 feet from me. My speakers and my listening position are essentially an equal lateral triangle in the middle of the room. The speakers are at ear level, toed in slightly, but not directly at me. I also have sound treatment behind me. I listen too the “Hi-End Analog Audio” channel on KZbin using the optical output from my basic TV. Try the video “Best Voice 41 - Flying Voice” No sub running because I am in an apartment. I figured I would try a new noise filtering power cable because I only needed one for powered speakers. Some day I would like to head to Texas to hear Danny’s system. I did NOT notice any change in my system as to sound staging or clarity. Perhaps that is yet to come after burn in? Maybe? Thanks Danny, the power cable filtered the sound beautifully! The was more "roundness" in the high frequencies and mids seemed to have an 'air' and even a pleasant 'buzz' which might have been higher order harmonics resolving. (1) First, John Dunlavy famously said that although he was selling speaker cables, they did NOT sound any different than regular cables with a large enough gauge (2) He never claimed that A/C cables made any audible difference. (3) He was a die hard scientist / engineer, who rejected hearing claims from so called "golden ears" people, and provided measurement proof to all his claims (4) He famously organised blind experiments where "golden ears" were hearing differences btwn 3 cables, when no cable was actually changed during the whole test... Read up John Dunlavy's post on "cable nonsense". Now, what do you disagree with in his arguments ? He was a stellar engineer, and a honest businessman. His contributions in radar and radio technologies were used in the moon landing, submarine comm, etc. He also knew how to actually measure cable charateristics unlike your "can't measure but it's there, buy from me" message. Using his name to support bogus A/C cable claims would be most dishonest.

Why can you not sell them pre burnt in? It seems like an awful lot of faith needs to be put into the assumption that they're going to get better and better. By the time you reach your 200 hours of burn in you would have run the system six or more hours a day almost every day for 30 days. I know the burn in service would add to the cost but then we could make a decision with plenty of time to meet the return time criteria.
