That Hz tuning is really smart. I had no idea how cool that engine is.

It is really, really smart. Lots of little things like this in V.A.S.T.

Hey Jim , really nice tutorial bro. Love the more resonance in lower octaves ! Also your Hammond Xk5 tutorial which sold me on my Xk5! Hope to meet you at NAMM this year !

Hey Jim, been following your music for a while now. Nice work on the sound. As a fellow musician, I've never really understand how what you just showed gets created. An idea I'm throwing out there for a future video is taking a sound from an song and going through the process of replicating it on the synth for a live production. I really never got into fine tuning voices that were already pre-programmed in the keyboard. Everything was just "good enough", but obviously your trained ear and knowledge really shows you are a step above and really want to get it correct. I love it!!! Awesome video.

Thanks man! I'm posting a video tomorrow showing how to create this patch from scratch on the K2700. Tune in then! :)

I have (had?) a PC3K8 but my daughter has decided it’s hers now so I was thinking of replacing it with the 2700 for the Kurz keybed, pianos and organs onboard. Just curious if the programming has gotten any simpler in the newer machine, especially with the better display to clarify things. The difference between the Forte and the 2700 would probably be a similar degree of change as I would see, so just wondering if you noticed any easier workflow. I’m also curious now that you’ve said it, what analog synth would you be pulling out if you tried to recreate the Pink Floyd sound on that board?

Thanks for commenting! The color screen of the latest generation of Kurzweils certainly helps but the core of the V.A.S.T. system is still the same as the PC3. Same parameters, same concepts. They've expanded on it in the Forte / PC4 / K2700 but it's still the same architecture. I'm posting a video tomorrow that's over 40 minutes long on how to recreate this patch from scratch on the K2700. I'm hoping it helps some people understand the V.A.S.T. architecture and lexicon. It can be harrowing at first to deep dive into V.A.S.T. but once one understands the core concepts, it all makes sense. As someone who came primarily from the Yamaha universe of digital synths, starting with the original DX7, the Kurzweil way of doing things was, at first, quite confusing. But now that I understand it, I prefer it to everything else out there. Regarding analog synths to recreate Floyd sounds, I started a discussion about this over on the Music Player forum. I came to the conclusion that of the synths I currently own, the best option would be the Arturia PolyBrute followed by the DSI Prophet 12. But really any modern analog poly with a unison mode could do it to varying degrees of authenticity. I say polysynth because once you get into The Wall there's a lot of Prophet 5 on there. But if you were just doing the leads and basses, you could get away with a monophonic, like the IK Multimedia UNO Pro.

Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to watching the patch build to see if much has changed. Re. the poly, I do have a Prophet 10 so it would be the one I guess I would try to do Floyd sounds on, not having tried to copy them before.
