Hazrat Baba Haji Sher Diwan is the shrine of Haji Sher Muhammad Diwan (born 651 CE), a preacher of Islam in the Punjab region. It is located in a village old name Kothiwal near Borewala, Pakistan, 125 km from Multan and 73 km from Pakpattan. Shrine of Hazrat Baba Haji Sher Dewan is the first shrine in South Asia. The shrine is located in village Chak Haji Sher Dewan (formerly Kothiwal) on Borewala Sahuka Road. It was built by Sultan Mahmud of Ghaznavi and renovated by both the Mughal emperors Jahangir and Dewan Mul Raj. Being chained to the shrine for three consecutive days and nights is believed to cure mental disorders. Fariduddin Ganj Shakar and Alauddin Sabir Kalyari were born in the area, and Bahauddin Zakaria, Jalaluddin Sarkh Posh Bukhari, Usman Marwandi (aka Lal Shahbaz Qalandar) and Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, visited the shrine.[6]
Half a kilometer from the shrine is a well called Khoi Baba Farid. Fariduddin Ganjshakar is said to have meditated at the well for twelve years, hung himself from a raw cotton rope, and attained Bhagati. The well is still in use. Baba Haji Sher Muhammad Chawli Mashikh is considered one of the oldest Muslim saints of the Indian subcontinent. His birth name was Rai Chawla. Baba Haji Sher played an important role in the establishment of Islam and this area has great importance as the first Dargah Sharif of the Indian subcontinent. There is no exact date about the birth of Haji Sher Diwan, but the inscription on the main entrance of the tomb proves that Haji Sher Diwan was born in Khotwal in 30 AH 650 AD. Haji Muhammad was very interested in being active as a warrior since his childhood. It is believed that Haji Sher Diwan belonged to a Hindu family. His father Raja Mahipala was a Hindu leader and chieftain of the Dhodhi Rajputs. Baba Haji Sher Dewan converted to Islam after being captured in the war. This war is fought between Wali Sindh and Islamic forces. Baba Haji Sher also took part in this war and went to Medina as a prisoner. Baba Haji Sher was greatly influenced by the religious teachings of Islam and he accepted Islam at the hands of Hasan bin Ali and received religious education from various Shahab Ikrams (the Companions of Muhammad and also Haji. He spent some days at Dargah Sharif and received religious Sufism from there, after completing the stages of Sufism, Haji Sher returned and started preaching Islam, his sister Kanga Baros also helped him in his mission. Death of Haji Sher It is described in 131 A.H. Sufis like Mir Masood Ghazi late 424 A.H., Sheikh Ismail Lahori deceased 448 A.H., Usman Datta Ghanbakash Lahori Ali A.H. 465 A.H., Syed Ahmad Sakhi Sarwar in 577 A.H., Khwaja Bakhtiar Kaki 635 A.H. Hijri and among them the late Baba Fariduddin Ganj Shakar died so it has to be admitted that the shrine of Haji Sher Dewan is the oldest shrine which is located in 317/E.B Tehsil Borewala District Wahari.
